Best and worst war movies you have watched?

Featured Replies

My own best list:

-Black hawk down

-saving private ryan

-paths of glory

-letters from iwo jima

-platoon

-lone survivior

Worst

-jarhead 2 and 3

-9th company/ 9th rota

-enemy at the gates (good actors, but many laughable innacurate scenes esp. the headshot sniping mechanics)

Favorites (apart from the ones you listed)

-American Sniper

-The Hurt Locker

-Full Metal Jacket

-Apocalypse Now

I can't think of any that I've seen and don't like, I'm sure there are some out there though just can't think of them at the moment. The ones I listed up top are just the ones that come to mind immediately, I have plenty more.

Act of Valor (The best one IMO)

Saving private ryan

The longest day

Schindler's list (very sad, but good movie)

And American Sniper, (Chris Kyle is a hero)

"I'm a marked man, so I'm getting out of here"

I liked:

- Unsere Mütter, Unsere Väter (German mini WW2 series)

- Das Boot

- Band of Brothers

- Saving Private Ryan

- Letters from Iwo Jima

- Tora Tora Tora

- The longest day

- Die Brücke (1959 version)

- Stalingrad

- Unter dem Sand

- Top Gun

- Battle of Britain

- Red October

and American Sniper

I didn't liked that much but were okay:

- Fury (unrealistic, sometimes just dumb, but okay because of Tanks :)

- Rambo (Bit too much for me)

movies that I don't like:

- Red Tails

- Ilsa she wolf of the SS (Whole movie is just crap)

I actually thought Fury was one of the more realistic war films out there. I mean yes the SS unit they encountered were completely stupid, but not all of the SS units in real life were as "elite" as they're made out to be. And the film is set in 1944/1945, when the German army was scraping the bottom of the barrel for manpower. Which explains the SS unit and why the Tiger crew pulled out of their cover position to engage the Shermans.

That's just one thing that I don't like about it. But what mainly disturbs me is for example why are there trenches in the middle of a field or why do the germans start to shoot when the allied are just a few meters away from them and the germans had weapons with a bigger reach. :) And it isn't realistic that only a five men can fight against about 500 german SS soldiers. But yea opinions :) What I liked about the movie is that they used a real tiger not like in Saving Private Ryan where they used a modified T-34 :)

Flags of Our Fathers

Act of Valor

Band of Brothers

Black Hawk Down

Disliked:

American Sniper (Mostly for the inaccurate portrayal of the motives behind the invasion of Iraq).

Seems like the jarhead sequels weren't even close to being impactful to showing the horrors of war on an individual and just action flicks

Favorites (Albeit many of them):
Von Ryan's Express (One of my more favorite films)

Battle of Britain
Where Eagles Dare

The Great Escape

The Imitation Game (Bloody marvelous film)

Very Good:
Black Hawk Down (Obviously)

The Great Raid (Outstanding)
Tora, Tora, Tora
Downfall - Simply because of it's different perspective.

🕵️‍♂️ Always watching, always waiting.

few recommendations that i have not seen here

Black Eagle (korean movie about a fighter pilot. English dub is hilarious. can be a bit slow at times) - feels like watching a ace combat movie

Battle LA (war/sci fi action packed from start to finish)

Lost Battallion

Red Tails
