They definitely fulfill their purpose as a ruggedized laptop well. We have been using the CF-19's in the field for at least the 4 years I've been around and I must say, they are kind of junk. Hard to type reports with such a small keyboard and the touchscreens aren't very responsive. But they can definitely take a beating.

I need a toughbook for programming radios, since they're one of the few laptops with modern-ish specs that come with an RS232/DB9 serial port. Stupid mobile radios are picky and won't even accept a USB-serial cable.

To this day my programming computer is this old desktop i have sitting around with win XP on it with a DB9     Got to love moto and their finicky CPS.

Oh, so ( /\/\ ) has the same issue?

I've got EF Johnson radios, the handhelds program fine (usually, YMMV, do not combine with any other offer...) but the mobiles are picky as $%&#! Sometimes they even refuse to program with the toughbook, and I have to use a desktop (With the same OS, mind you, just... different electrical properties or something...)

Yeah I have only programmed motorolas (xts3000's and 2500's) for a few people on my dept and it took a while to get the CPU to recognize the cable and read the radio code plugs
