My custom sounds are too quiet, help!

I am in the process of creating a Tahoe sound mod, and since I have no where else to obtain said sounds, I am using YouTube and downloading the clip, throwing it into Audacity, and making it about +5-10DB loud. Whenever I test the sounds in game, they are VERY quiet (barely audible) and I tried turning it up more in Audacity, but it only distorts the sound. If I could get some help from someone who has created a vehicle sound mod, it would be amazing.
