Police Jobs for people who can't pass the fitness test?

Featured Replies

So, I'd really like to try an join my local police force (The Met); but i highly doubt I'd pass the fitness exam due to my heart condition.

are there any jobs i can do within the police (preferably not desk-bound) that don't require massive amounts of fitness?

Thanks guys!

Possibly TSA, though, that's as close as you're probably going to get. Police jobs that aren't desk-bound usually require people to be in good physical condition to meet the strenuous, demanding aspects of the job.

Edit: Didn't realize you're in the UK. My bad. Disregard this.

As a fellow UK resident I can give you a bit of extra advice on this, there are a few of "Police" jobs available that aren't Constabulary (i.e a police constable, special constable, sergeant etc)

Firstly though, the met may have different requirement levels however a standardised test is used, referred to as a beep test (if you don't know, you run backwards and forwards over a short length in time with beeps which gradually increase in speed). The minimum requirement is a result of 5.4.

Now onto the other positions, this is all from my knowledge taken from my local police force webpage which I spend far too much time viewing (I also wish to join the police), so the met may vary. I would recommend seeing what jobs they actually publish. Also you should come to terms that you'll probably have a desk job. Seeing as most jobs outside of constabulary will be office related.

Police Staff Roles include the following areas (not limited to): finance, investigation, business administration, HR, IT, telecommunications, call handling, press and PR, forensics, photography, estates management etc etc.

Currently my local force has 3 available jobs which are not part of the general police officers recruitment, these are: Internal Quality Assurance Officer, Vetting and Research Assistant and lastly Force Automatic Number Plate Recognition Intelligence Manager.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks, i'm aware a non desk-bound job is unrealistic, but onme can hope. I'll check the website.

I heard stories from an old friend about a class mate of him with a hearth condition that was a magnificant runner. No I dont know what you specificly have, but I can say that you can atleast try. Quit when you feel like your hearth cant take it and let your trainers know about your condition.
