Why are files for vehicle models scattered; And why are there duplicates of each car?

Featured Replies

Why did Rockstar scatter vehicle model files in various RPH directories? Also, why are there multiple different directories where one specific car can be found? This makes modding vehicles more difficult because there are other copies of the files you need to replace in other RPH directories. How do modders know which ones need to be replaced? This may be a stupid question but I am very curious.

We usually just install them in 1 dlc.rpf. Most of the time it's the most recent patch day so it's not that hard imo

Well, Rockstar is stupid. But it's really not that difficult. All the police car models can go into the latest patchday, as the it'll overwrite the same model in an older patchday. So if you feel like you don't know where to go, you can just put it in the latest vehicle folder available.

because after every update the update the directory for a few cars. i dont know what the reason is, it may just be solely to fuck with modders, but chances are its not.

Okay, that helps a lot. Ill just use the latest archive then.

I've added a collection of cars under patchday11ng. However, none of them were actually in the game when I checked. The only one that was was the one which I added under patchday9ng, where the readme file for that car told me to put it. So it appears it is not actually overwriting the cars when I put them in patchday 11.

Good insight. But what about in the case of Patchday11. For example, I can replace vehicles from patchday11, but there is no vehicles.meta file in patchday11 so where would I put the vehicles.meta file?

For example, I know the default vehicle.meta file is in the common/data folder - for me I'm trying to replace the stanier or whatever R*s CVPI knock off is with a FPI and make it handle like Police3. For some reason, when I load the game it remains handling like Police despite putting the addon in the latest patchday (patchday10 at the time) and changing the applicable data in the vehicles.meta file. This also happened when changing the SheriffSUV to a Charger...for some reason when I changed Sheriff2 to drive like Police2, it wouldn't work....but when I changed FBI to drive like Police2, my charger drove like a charger rather than an suv....any insights into some of these inconsistencies?

You don't have to replace the vehicle.meta in the patchday you're installing a car into. For ex, if I put fbi2 in patchday9, it'll use the original vehicle.meta unless there's an fbi2 in the .meta of a newer patchday.

I've seen other people have that problem, but I've never had it myself, so I wouldn't know how to fix those inconsistencies with that issue with the meta.

I think I tested a car in patchday11 a few days ago and it overwrote for me. But, stick to what works for you. So just keep putting stuff into patch9 if it works.
