High Insurance Cost

Featured Replies

You gotta agree with the fact that car insurance is so ridicules, especially in the United kingdom. The insurance can cost way more than what you paid for the car itself and it makes me angry and frustrated. Vehicles in Australia are expensive compare to other countries in Europe (united kingdom) and yet insurance is cheaper than united kingdom and maybe United states that being said though that it's a scam ridicules price in United Kingdom for younger people like myself.

This is what I know so far. Certain age groups from 18 to 25 then 25 to 50 and so forth gets different insurance depending on your age and your history. For my age group and most of us here anyway that it's going to be around £4000 to £6000 per year to insurance the car, and it doesn't stop there. Older the car the higher the cost (10 years old car is the max) and younger the car the cheaper (if I'm correct). Reasons because the old car probably will have allot of more problems and break down then the new.

People over 60 insurance are cheaper and lower than younger people by 20% or less, so that is around £1500 depending on the history and experience and the car. Reasons because the people at that age aren't a madness silly driver with more experienced on the road and carefully respectful, younger generation doesn't have it in the current world but not all of us, has been 10% that has to break it and other 80% has to suffer.

Don't forget in the United kingdom that Engine sizes will make the annual tax difference, that's is why there are more 1.8 to 2.0 engine's then V6 and up.

It's probably because they think all of us are Boy Racers in an Astra. However, the insurance is so high because the amount of people who are 18 who drive whilst using their phones, it is that high that insurance companies make their insurance so much higher, it's bleedin' criminal in my opinion. The amount you pay for insurance is just under the yearly amount you pay to go to university.

You can get it down I know, they have this box which records all data when you are driving, how hard you break, speeds, how much pressure you put on your tires when turning (to check whether you took a turn going at idiotic speeds), they take all that data into effect and if it shows you aren't an idiot a driving it's a lot lower.

🕵️‍♂️ Always watching, always waiting.

It's all based on statistics. Fact is young drivers are more likely to be involved in an collision, hence the higher cost, although as @Ben mentioned, there are various ways to get it down.

It's a good thing insurance companies take your history into account; it's part of the punishment for careless/dangerous driving. If you drive safely and respect the law, expect to build no-claims bonuses and the cost to drop rapidly. If not, well, get your car seized every time you drive illegally ^.^

I know the biggest reason my insurance is so high is because I use a smaller company for the customer service and I have collision and a ton of other crap, plus being 21 makes it higher.

With my new car, I actually get 55% off my policy (the total is ~$2400) because of the safety, security, and low mileage bonuses.

Haha I can't wait until my insurance drops in about two years; I can't stand paying so much- low mileage, no infractions at all, no accidents, nothing and I still pay a ridiculous amount.

just keep that record clean and it will drop    but one infraction is all it takes  then you can add up to four yrs in some states before it will go down

The insurance is a legal scam.

You HAVE to get one, because it's illegal not to. And it makes sense, if you get an accident and you or other people involved need medical attention it's nice to have someone to pay the bills (even though if you generously pay them before and after it anyway).

But when you actually need something from them, even if you pay a shit ton of money, they're like "Ehm, well, we'll think about it, okay?"

Vultures, all of them.

Like Hystery said. I don't know about the UK, but Russian insurance legislation is like 'everything your insurance guys want, and please don't worry, you won't ever have to pay'. A lot of exemptions from the insurance. A lot of reasons for them to decline payment. In a general commercial contract it's up to the parties to develop terms of contract. But the insurance contract terms are written down in the code. It makes sense if you live in a socialist society where everything is done how the government tells you, but it's like you know free market and all that, no?

When God was creating the world He must have mistakenly created the insurance companies first.
