Game won't update/run

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have finished the PC installation from the CD's that I purchased today, but when I try to run GTA V, it attempts to update the game, downloads a 54MB update and then gives me a message saying the update service is unavailable (code 201). Anyone know how to fix this? I haven't even gotten to the page where I enter the activation code yet.

Regards,

Maybe the service is indeed unavailable, just wait.

Also, if you installed the retail version of the game, don't be in a hurry, there are still a couple GB of updates to download.

I managed to get past the error (code 201) by executing the application file inside the GTAV folder instead of the icon on the desktop and am now downloading almost 64GB of downloads. Good grief, that's a huge amount of updates!

Ehm... That's actually not updates, that's the entire game. The game weighs roughly 65GB, probably a bit more after the few updates of GTA:O but still.

Then why is it downloading that much? I just installed the game, activated it and now this is what I get next - 60GB+ of updates.

I know from personal experience that the game has to download another 5GBs (Heists update, the discs were made before that) and then you will have to download every single update that was released since April 2015, so yeah, there probably is 60GB of updates at this point.

Ok, cool. Was hoping to play it tonight but it's already 10pm almost and it's still got nearly an hour of downloading to do at 2MB a minute.

I reinstalled my game just two weeks ago after I fucked up the vanilla files by mistake, and I didn't have 60GB of updates. And I've the retail version. I had what,10GB max? Not much, as I was done downloading after 2-3 hours and I've a very slow connection.

Could be worse, I had to do it at just under 1 MB/s, which is why I never, ever want to reinstall GTA V (even though it's fucked up)

I think I'm wrong about the size of the update. It says it's already up to 53GB of 64GB, so I think it's only maybe 10GB or something and that the 64GB is the total size of the game once the updates are added. If it were a whole 64GB, it'd take me 10 hours to do.

For some reason, it can't find the installed files. I can see no other reason why it would be downloading 60GB+ of content.

Perhaps contact Rockstar support.

My ISP plan gives me unlimited downloads, so I'll see if I have any more problems before badgering the good people at Rockstar. I'll badger you guys first! :P

Then it's normal, it's updating your game.

Thats correct, It usually does go to about 4/5 (because of the disc install) and start there.
