    Most likely used to transport a large amount of officers to a scene at once, but I'm sure they have multiple uses.

My question was why the NYPD uses buses not why we use buses in general

Yeah show me a GUMVD where they transport cops to their homes in police-owned buses :D

After all, a bus can seat more people that ESU trucks and those Ford wagons, and if there's no rush, you can leisurely and comfortably fill an area with cops by two or three buses.

Not sure transporting officers to and from the station along the same route and time every day would be a good idea. It would make them vulnerable to anyone who wanted to take out lots of cops at once....

That never happens in Russia. Anyway, most cops use same public transportation routes every day, so that's not too much of a difference.
