PC turns on, but no power to peripherals

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've had this computer for over 3 years now and I've been very happy with it. Recently however, I've noticed that booting it up can be a bit hit and miss, with it sometimes booting up fine and sometimes turning on but not powering up the peripherals (including the monitor). I have put this down to a PSU issue but I'd like some second opinions.

My system specs are:

CPU: Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Processor i7-3820 (3.6GHz) 10MB Cache
Mobo: ASUS® SABERTOOTH X79: SOCKET 2011, R.O.G
RAM: 16gb Corsair Vengeance Pro Series DDR3 1866Mhz
GPU: 2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 670 - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready
HDD: 2TB 3.5" SATA-III 6GB/s HDD 7200RPM 64MB CACHE
SSD: Samsung 250 GB 850 EVO Solid State Drive
PSU: FSP 600W Quiet 80 PLUS Quad Rail PSU + 120mm Case Fan

I'm aware that FSP aren't a particularly well respected brand but it hasn't given me any issues previously - could it be that my PC simply needs more power?

Thanks in advance

Well you already got some good advice here... https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?44403-PC-turns-on-but-no-power-to-peripherals

Atleast change the darn formatting :)

Yeah, I was hoping for some advice that wasn't going to be as expensive as what they suggested over there...

If it works and it isn't broken - don't change it!

PSU for sure get a 750wat or if you plan upgrading more get something around 800wats to 900 if you going to upgrade higher

Yeah, I've come to the slow realisation that I'm going to have to pump money into this. I was looking at this to upgrade too.

I had the same with my 980 ti graphics card ones i installed it i was getting slow HDD etc, and i was using a 500wat power supply back then so upgrading to that EVGA will be a perfect fit for you.

good luck also i think that PSU as eco mode
