Single Player AI/Handling Discussion - realism

Featured Replies

So I've starting looking at ai mods, trying to make the game more realistic / challenging, specifically focused on ai and vehicle handling.  I found the pursuits easy to catch, easy to end, you called for backup and they usually obliterated the fool who was trying to run away.  I wanted to find a way to increase vehicle speeds, difficulty, and so on.  I like the idea of a catastropic crash putting you out of a pursuit much faster, and making you more likely to lose a vehicle if you are careless and/or use poor tactics.  I was also kind of annoyed at the over slow max speed of most vehicle.

So I started looking into and installed a few mods that increased the damage and changed the vehicle handling characteristics.  There was a few out there but settled on RealisticDriving by Killatomate. http://www.moddb.com/mods/realistic-driving-v . It was nice to see the vehicle's you control moving at breakneck speeds, braking being mandatory, and supercars being.. well super.

I started playing a few police missions, started a pursuit, and began chasing the car, but quickly realized the ai didn't seem to be pushing their car to their max, and every single backup police car was left in the dust, never being able to join the pursuit as they were too slow.  It seemed as though the ai was not using the cars to their full potential.

So I decided the ai must be the problem, and started looking at ai mods.  I'm testing out the "insane drivers traffic mod" by fortinwithwill https://www.gta5-mods.com/misc/insanely-bad-drivers-traffic-mod . I've started on level 3 (cautious) I haven't found a good mix yet, but I wanted to see if others are following this same logic and have found any solutions or mod groupings that work well.  So here are my thoughts on what a good ai / handling / realism blend should look like.

The ai should be able to drive around for the most part without destroying themselves on their daily grind, travelling at or near city limit specified speeds.

The ai should be able to, when pursued push their cars to their limits, and reach higher speeds.  Some cars (super cars) should be able to outrun police.

The police ai should also be able to, when pursued, reach higher speeds. Some police cars (super police cars or helicoptors) should have to be used to catch these super cars.

Damage to vehicles should be a higher, where a likely fatal collision should render a vehicle immobalized.

Does anyone have any mod groupings or settings they would like to share, focused on realistic handling, and realistic ai settings.

Cheers.

Frankly, I'd like to know why my heli pilots can't fly to save their lives, by literally not crashing into objects and terrain, anymore. Several updates ago they seemed to forget their training, even the default SWAT and the default Police Maverick in addition to my added ones. They struggle to keep up to me flying down the highway, and that's when they aren't doing the aforementioned crashing.

I went through all my modded files and checked them against the latest unmodded ones, and nothing seems missing. Only the console ymts that were converted by the Crime and Police Rebalance mod couldn't be checked, but those haven't been updated since the PC version came out anyways.
