Snoop Dogg Arrested in Sweden

Featured Replies

LOL.

So apparently the renowned American pop artist "Snoop Dogg" was detained/arrested in Sweden for allegedly using some sort of narcotics. Snoop Dogg was pulled over by police and transported to a police station where he was ordered to take several drug tests. Snoop Dogg recorded his joy ride to the station and made statements such as "[N-word] as got me in the back of police car right now in Sweden, cuz,". In the tests and searches absolutely no drugs were found, nor any evidence of drugs according to these articles. Snoop Dogg claims racial profiling may have played a factor in his detainment. "They didn't find sh*t" was his statement afterwards. Snoop Dogg has vowed to not return to Sweden after the encounter with police, stating "2 all my sweden fans U can blame YA police dept for never seeing me again in your beautiful country. ... and I'm still smokin"

Clearly I'm not Swedish, so I'm not all too familiar with Swedish policy and such when it comes to this. I'm not sure if racial profiling is an issue in Sweden, or if Swedish police are known to do this kind of thing. Keep in mind, absolutely no drugs were found after Snoop Dogg was released; according to these articles.

They probably pulled him over for a numerous of other reasons, reasons the papers didn't report. Swedish police isn't exactly known to be very brutal. The guy was put into custody, subjected to drug testing (probably becuase they had reasonable cause to do this) and then released. It happens often, just because he is an artist doesn't make him any different in the eyes of the law. He wants to boycott Sweden because of this? Good riddance. But blaming the police department is a bit low - They're just doing their job and main steam media would have us believe the police has wronged him, and that they're racists.

Now are there certain regulations that police are required to follow in Sweden prior to conducting drug tests and the such? Or are the police able to pull anyone over and do it? For example in the United States police must have reasonable suspicion of probable cause to search your vehicle. They can't just walk up and search your car.

Probable cause is needed, and by the looks of it, they had it.

Sounds like they were trying to make an easy bust and got burned. Glad it worked out like that.

I don't get what the big deal is to be honest. The police department had probable cause, he was searched, put in a car and brought downtown. The don't do that just because they're trying to make a bust. The police in Sweden is not like the American one with arrest quotas to fill. The mainstream media would have you believe that the police just harrassed him, because of course they take his side when he makes a PR stunt about it. He's just a guy who was brought downtown. It's not a big deal.

Do you happen to have any links to a Swedish media outlet on this story? All of mine are American and the such, and our media loves to divide the population and cause an unneeded stir, leaving parts of the story unmentioned. I'd prefer to see a Swedish one since it seems more reliable. American media isn't reliable.

This should do it: http://www.thelocal.se/20150726/swedish-police-briefly-hold-us-rapper-snoop-dog

The fact that Swedish police can take you in for a drug test just because you appear to be high and then charge you if the test comes back positive is appalling. Even the War on Drugs in the US never criminalized the state of being high.

How is it appaling? It's a criminal offence to be under the influence of such drugs - Not very appaling to me :) It's nothing like the war on drugs here in Sweden. We instead have a zero tolerance policy, which works quite well.

Now, this was about a guy being held for a brief period of time and not charged. It's not the end of the world.

It's appaling because it's not ONLY illegal to be under the influence of a drug, it's even illegal to have it in your system. Bear in mind that cannabis stays in your system for up to 4 weeks after ingestion, which means that if you're driving, you get pulled over and for some reason they decide to conduct a urinal/blood test on you, you can get convicted for a narcotics offense.
I'm from the US but I moved here when I was 16 - and I think the laws in this country are absolutely askew. It's like a throwback to 1940's America, and for a "progressive" country such as Sweden, that's really strange.
One other thing to add is that there's no such thing as civil rights here. The police pretty much have full authority to do whatever they want based on their own judgment. Let's say you get pulled over, right? If the police, for any reason, suspect you're high, actually, they wouldn't even need to suspect it - they can just say that they suspect it, they can detain you and take you in for a drug test.

There are no rights - the only rights you have are the ones given to you based on the police officer's own judgment.

Granted, police brutality isn't a big issue because police here are trained to discuss and solve situations with words, and only to use force when there is no other way. This is why you get cops who barely know how to handle an ASP baton, such as these jokers:

I don't know about you, but in a country where carrying anything for self-defense is a crime, and you have to resort to trusting officer's in the video above.. Hmm. I'm not sure that makes me feel safe.

I have to laugh at your comment saying "it works quite well". What planet are you from? Over 1 million Swedes use marijuana, and 2 hours from where I live, in Christiania, Copenhagen, I can buy however much of any quantity I would like and take it over the Öresund bridge with virtually 0% risk of getting apprehended.

I highly advise you to check this out, because if you think the drug laws in this country are working quite well, you obviously haven't dug deep enough.
