Replacing one vehicle with another

Featured Replies

I am trying to wrap my head around the process of properly replacing one vehicle with another. What I would like to do is replace a seldom used vehicle, such as the old police car, and use it for a modded vehicle to avoid "sacrificing" another vehicle for a custom texture. Specifically, (in vehicles.rpf) I would like to take the "police" (police1) model and texture, export them and rename them to "policeold" and then subsequently replace the "policeold" files with the modded car i. It looks like I would then need to modify the vehicles.meta, handling.meta, and possibly vehicleaihandlinginfo.meta, peds.meta and dispatch.meta (if I want to enable it for AI use).

In handling.meta, it seems like I could simply copy and paste the handling date from police1 to policeold and save.

Where I draw confusion is how I would need to modify the vehicles.meta file and if it would be as simple as copying and pasting the data in the same was as the handling.meta file.

Additionally, I am not certain if there is another step I am overlooking in this process that could have some problems (such as the emergency lights, audio, etc).

Any help would be greatly appreciated in this regard.

Thanks!

About emergency lights, It is located at default carvariations.meta but unfortunately it is compiled into .ymt file, .ymt file cannot be edited yet, But I'd recommend to add the vehicle instead of replacing it.

About Vehicle audio, You can change the audio hash at default vehicles.meta

Search "<AudioNameHash/>" on vehicles.meta with using notepad.

Then add this line.

<audioNameHash>police</audioNameHash>

This will change the vehicle audio from policeold1 vehicle audio to original police vehicle audio.

Thanks for the replies! Would creating a new vehicle allow me to use settings from carvariations.meta or does the fact that this file is encrypted mean that for now we are simply limited to modding existing vehicles if we want to use emergency lights?
