Exactly what is "general discusssion"

Featured Replies

okay so over the past few days i've noticed that admin has taken it upon themselves to close topics at random for no reason in a section that, for all intensive purposes, is marked General Discussion An off-topic forum for ALL forms of conversation. so instead of making us feel stupid about posting in the wrong spot, which we are NOT doing, i would like clarification on the "new" rules.

If this new "status update" feature has somehow morphed into its own entertainment facility, then i think at the very least we should be told more specifically now what can and can't be posted here. If you take a look at the topics in here they vary greatly. from others posting videos to start light conversation to wrestling threads to smelling farts. All topics which have remained open with no problem.

Now I have no problem abiding by rules at all. but this random closing of topics without reason is silly. if someone doesn't want to read a post then they won't go there. that is the whole point of this forum in the first place. those who wanna read will..those who won't wont..i dont think we need mods closing threads without a reason or without specific clarifications. it's ridiculous that you have to sit in front of your computer for twenty minutes trying to decide if you will get a warning for posting something.

this part of the forum is supposed to be for fun...and im not having any lately.

The problem i think is how you bring it. Now you just post a youtube video with the comment that you also want to act like a crazy monkey on drugs. But if you would have instead turned the topic into a discussion on pro/anti drugs or something similar i'm sure the mods would have left it open.

Talking about this one btw, i assume?

You are, of course, referring to your topic titled "When you are too drunk to stand and dance..." with a topic ID of 51569. It had the content "I will have two of what she is having!! have a good day everybody " and a link to a silly video. While the contents of the topic isn't wrong at all, it's not a discussion. It's something you'd see in a BuzzFeed post, or a Facebook post, or as in our case: A status update where you can wish people a good day without making a whole topic about it.

The General and Misc. Discussion section is excactly as you said, for any form of discussion / conversation. This is in no way a new rule - It has been there for a long long time.

To make an example of your topic again, it had no discussion value. It was merely a friendly statement for people to have a nice day, a status update. I'm not sure how we can make it more specific, you said yourself what can be posted there in your OP. I made it quite clear why I closed the topic; "This would go well as a status update - Not a forum post". Short, and to the point. I didn't think any further elaboration was needed, you've said yourself you understood why now after it was closed.

Furthermore, status updates aren't new, they've been here since the birth of the forums, several years ago if I remember correctly. It's not a new feature of LCPDFR.com.

Further touching upon moderators closing topics at "random" is completely false. I don't think any of my moderators or myself close topics without a valid reason, and if you think it has been closed for an invalid reason, you can report it. This is true for any post, but in the "lock-message" this is clearly stated in italics.

You're also saying that "those who wanna read will..those who won't wont." While yes, this is completely true, we don't allow just about any content to be posted. We like our forums to be clean and tidy - Not filled with spam or messy topics (This is part of the Community Guidelines, General Etiquette).

You deciding to sit 20 minutes infront of your computer deciding if you'll get a warning or not is entirely on you: You can, at any time, PM a member of the Community Team asking about fora rules if you're unsure. You never have to guess - We are here to help and gladly answer your questions. Assumptions is when mistakes happen, please ask instead of "winging" it.

This part of the forum can be fun and interesting, and it still is. It all depends on the content posted.

i do appreciate you taking the time to clarify your decision to close my thread. second, at no time did i say that i "understood why my post was closed" because i still dont. however, being that i have no powers here i will have to accept your decision. but, in closing i will post just a few links of other topics that have "no discussion value" that remain open.

now i hope i have at least made you understand where i am coming from. because these are no different whatsoever from what i posted earlier. as a matter of fact, they are extremely simliar and damn near identical. these posts are interesting to those who find it interesting and none or all "provoke conversation" depending on who reads them. all im saying is that if the rule is goin to be enforced, please make sure it goes around the world and dont just stop on a few doorsteps. thanks for your time and i'll make sure i stay away from this section of the forum in the future and stick to the "status update" instead

I see where you are coming from. The topics you linked aren't topics I'd choose to have open, but to be completely honest: I haven't seen them before. Without a report filed against a topic, chances are we (the Community Team) won't see everything being posted. I've moved the first topic you linked as it was in the wrong section, as for the rest, they're a bit too old to close now, as they've died down. Thanks for understanding :)
