ELS Lights Help

Featured Replies

Hello, so I'm pretty new to creating vehicles and I don't know much about ELS.

I'm having a slight problem with some of my vehicles.

So I have a charger (Don't know whos but I could find out if needed) and I made my own texture and that worked out fine. Now I'm trying to change the color of the lights. What I did was I changed the emergencylights_emis texture in the .wtd to be all blue lights instead of blue and red. I don't know if that's the right way but it worked. I also changed the enviroment lights to be blue and that worked fine.

Except now, Light stage one shows orange environmental lights and no lights anywhere on the car are even lit up.

Any help would be appreciated or even a point towards some kind of ELS tutorial explaining how to change light colors etc.

I have a pretty good guess of what it is. (can't find a good, short simple video of 8.5 for you...)

Light Stage One,  turns only your traffic advisor on.  And the default ELS settings are made with the assumption the car model has one.

It sounds like the model was not designed with one in mind.  So go to your ELS folder,  which may have 2 or more files currently:   _SLOTCONTROL & default_config.   (i recommend you to make copies of default_config in the same folder.)

Okay edit the original file,  extras 7, 8, 9 are normally used for the traffic advisor.  In this example you see 7,8,9 coloured amber.  Since that vehicle model doesn't use it,  go to [ ENV_LIGHT_ACTIVE ] and change 7,8,9 to off.

[ ENV_LIGHT_COLORS ]
Extra_1 = red
Extra_2 = red
Extra_3 = red
Extra_4 = red
Extra_5 = white
Extra_6 = white
Extra_7 = amber
Extra_8 = amber
Extra_9 = amber

[ ENV_LIGHT_ACTIVE ]
Extra_1 = on
Extra_2 = on
Extra_3 = on
Extra_4 = on
Extra_5 = off
Extra_6 = off
Extra_7 = on
Extra_8 = on
Extra_9 = on

 (if you are customizing a whole bunch of vehicles,   then you should also learn about the  _SLOTCONTROL file.)

Ahh yes, thanks a ton.

So, this car which was made for ELS does in-fact not have a Light Stage One. In the ELS menu it shows the SECL as flashing but they must not correspond to any actual lights on the car.

Is there any way to fix this and set some of the lights as the SECL? Or would I have to make my own car for that? I thought maybe the ENV Light Positions might do it if I got them in the right spots?

(I know about re-texturing and SLOTCONTROL but I have no clue in the slightest how ELS knows where the lights are and such. I'm no modeller, so sorry for all the questions and if I'm being dumb.)

You pretty much got it.    Extras,  7,8,9 are used as secondary lighting.

And if the car wasn't modelled with one,  it has to be "remade".  Or you need to find another model to use instead.

I can't think of any way ELS can be used to get around that.

And interesting thought about the ENV light position.  I've never played with the light positions,  but I think all the ENV_LIGHT options strictly deal with light on the environment such as the road, buildings,  background objects.    So what colour appears on the ground and where the lights appear to emanate from.   BUT not, how it appears on the car/lightbar.

It can take a while to wrap your head around these settings.  The fact you are trying to learn and find workarounds, means you are on the right track to figuring what you want to do.   :thumbsup:

(Post the vehicle details if you want.  No outside links though.   Maybe someone will have some suggestions for other car models that are similar.)

Yeah, unfortunately you are right and the light positions do only effect the environment.

I have a feeling that something I am doing is causing the SECL to not work properly.

I'm using Cj24's LCPD Pack which is made for ELS which is why I would think that it would have all of the lights.

PS: I'm glad GTA IV isn't totally dead now that GTA V came out ;p

Okay, yea CJ24's vehicles are some of my favourites.   But from the comments, I believe that specific pack was designed without them. (and I should mention older car models,  may not take advantage of the newer ELS versions/features but the basic lighting still works)

Try these as a replacement,  or check out his other downloads.   He makes a lot of NON ELS cars,  so make sure the file is labelled ELS.

Oh yeah I think the pack I was using used an older ELS version which may have caused a problem.

Thanks so much for all the help though. So helpful and even finding replacement vehicle links lol. Probably the most helpful person I've ever found xD

And for some variety.

I don't use impalas but this one changed my mind.   Very simple, basic, clean set up.  As long as the pattern exists in ELS,  it does what you need.  Has a traffic advisor for secondary lighting sitting at the bottom of the rear window.

And an oldie but goodie.  This MSP crown vic model was made when an older ELS was used.   It uses red and blues for sec-lighting,  no amber lighting on it.  The PRML and SECL don't really differentiate each other very much but I like the set up.  Also uses different rims.
