I'll put it in a spoiler, cos why not.

I just got an e-mail from Playstation 4, seems like EA has just released the trailer for the new Star Wars Battlefront game, which if you like Star Wars as much as me you'll be really happy to see. What's everyone's opinions on the trailer and what would you like to see in the game.

🕵️‍♂️ Always watching, always waiting.

Star Wars Battlefront II was probably one of the Star Wars games I spent the most time on along with Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic I & II. Looking forward to this game, hopefully we'll be able to switch between on ground and space battles without loading (a bit like in Star Wars Battlefront Elite Squadron on PSP). I dream to pick up a X-Wing on ground and fly in the atmosphere and eventually leave it to take part to the orbital battle. And hopefully the first person view which will be available with the third person view will give access to modelized cockpits. It'd be awesome.

Same, I really enjoyed Battlefront 2, especially when you think of it, it was really high quality and brilliantly designed for a game of its time, it was so enjoyable. I can't wait to see how the new Battlefront turns out.

I'm just glad it's not that Battlefield re-skin that I was seeing in a few videos earlier, lol. I'm especially excited to take on the role as an Imperial Stormtrooper. Gonna take out them rebel scum some day.. xD. By the way, is this game only in a PvP type of format? I didn't quite understand the description at the link.

I have a feeling it's going to be a battlefield reskin. The trailer was basically all cutscenes. No gameplay footage. Knowing EA, they'll just shove shit out and down our throats.

Don't expect it to have offline and bots like the original 2 did. Look how they treated Battlefield. Totally scrapped bots and the "freeform campaign" from the first few.

C'mon. It's EA. I have a feeling it's going to feel awfully similar to the BF franchise.

Well, to be perfectly honest, the first Battlefront games were also quite similar to the Battlefield franchise. The different units corresponded to the sniper/soldier/medic of Battlefield, the ships and vehicles to the aircrats and vehicles of Battlefield, the game modes to capture different points to reduce enemy reinforcement as well. So of course it's going to be close to the Battlefield franchise. But you are right to fear how EA will hold DICE and what they are going to push them to do.

After all:

After watching a few YouTubers with information from an EA/DICE event regarding the game, it looks as if we can expect;

4 planets with 2 maps on each (3 planets upon release - 1 free DLC planet)

40 player locked maps

No space battles (however a similar setup to battlefield with fighters and ground attack aircraft)

No campaign

Co-op missions

Offline missions

Buddy system

First and third person views

Operable vehicles (such as speeder bikes, not sure about the Walkers yet but it's a possibility)

Hero characters

The lack of a campaign and space battles is very disappointing, but DICE haven't exactly made a name for themselves with their campaigns so a lack thereof may just be a good thing.

Third person will be abused to wall peak as always, but it will be useful for vehicles. The buddy system seems to be like that of Medal of Honour, so it'll be interesting to see if it works.

Vehicles I'm not too fussed about as I'm mainly an infantry focused player, but stomping on some rebel scum with a walker would be massively entertaining.

Probably the thing I'm most excited about is the hero characters. Being able to play as Darth Vader after a killstreak (or whatever) and force choking people while deflecting lasers with his lightsaber would also be massively entertaining.

I just can't wait to see how the game turns out, and also with it being on PC we always have the possibilities of modding which could maybe increase the amount of players, make new maps and just all the other things that will be possible on computer. I'm really looking forward to seeing actual gameplay though, although the trailer was really good, I want to see some real Gameplay before I think about pre-ordering it.

After all:

You had that 3rd person view. But overall the game just "felt" different from say battlefield 1942 or 2. The handling made you feel like you were playing a totally different IP and not a reskin.

However, with what Illusionary just posted, I seem to be at ease. The classic features that made the Battlefront series standout are coming back it seems.

I'm quite disappointed by this to be honest. A 40 player limit and 4 maps only? Really? I'm sure they'll be offering some "premium" service and releasing a bunch of DLCs (this is EA after all, anything to milk the money out of us) but 4 maps (3 upon initial launch) just doesn't cut it in my opinion. The lack of a campaign and space battles is very disappointing too, but DICE haven't exactly made a name for themselves with their campaigns so a lack thereof may just be a good thing.

I actually thought I read somewhere, a long time ago, that DICE said that there would be like 3 or 4 planets with 2 or 3 maps each.

It's been awhile but isn't that how the original battlefronts were?

Along as they include offline Bots, I'll be happy.

Edit: sorry for double post. Thought it would merge the 2 posts like the old system.

My mistake, there are 4 planets with 2 maps on each. Sorry, I've never actually played a Battlefront before (amazing, right?) so when I heard there was only 4 maps I was quite confused but now I realize by maps they meant planets. I'll update my original post.

Bots haven't been confirmed yet but let's hope.

I don't know if I can find that article but I *think* that's what they said a long time ago.

All the information that has came out about this has kind of pissed me off, EA and Dice has come in promising some sort of spiritual successor to a game many, many people played and some still play today and what they've done is remove core parts of the Original games so they can earn more money selling them on as DLC's. They obviously don't care about the actual franchise or the players who are going to play their game, they care about the money they are going to earn when they start selling the DLC's because most of their players have became bored with the few maps that come with the game.

Reminds me of Activision/Bungie with Destiny.

That game made me puke it was so bad. I'm serious, I actually felt nauseas after being excited for so long. It was sickening to my stomach, and I actually did puke. A waste of money is what that is.

I I just hope EA doesn't implement their beloved "pay to win" type of atmosphere. I can already see that those who pre order the game receive some special in game items. I also feel like they're going to add in game credits or currency, where you can purchase credits in exchange for special stormtrooper armor or something. I can also see them requiring payment in order to pilot certain vehicles. EA is famous for doing things like this, they killed SWTOR with this.
