Game Crashes after about 15 minutes

Featured Replies

Well when I can stay in SP and MP for more than 15 minutes it's great but on average I crash in aprox. 15-20 minutes.

My specs are more than the recommended for it. Anyone having the same issue?

I have the same problem on multiplayer. If I even get that far. Single player seems to do fine for me

Message me for any questions, suggestions, or just friendly advice! Im on every day!

Singleplayer i can last for hours, but about 15 minutes in mp and crash. I sent a support ticket to rockstar, but they haven't gotten back to me yet

Seems like its not just me that is having problems in MP. Thats good to know but i also wish it would just work as well.

I'm having the exact same issue. I've submitted a support ticket, I've timed it, around 14 minutes and the game crashes. Jesus Christ, this is getting ridiculous now. I'm reverting back to GTA IV for now, until a patch or update is given to fix this. I haven't tried MP because I don't care for it, yesterday it was working for hours on end, it crashed and now I cannot play more than 15 minutes.

The response they gave me was "possibly corruption regarding the Hard Drive"

my Hdd is not even a year old...

You're joking! If thats the reply they give me I'm going to lose it, they haven't even replied to my support ticket.  I'm going to contact them via phone tomorrow

"Hello Gunner9213,

Thank you for contacting Rockstar Support.

Unfortunately, since we are primarily video game tech support, that is really the most support we can give. You will need to contact your manufacturer for further troubleshooting.

If you have any further questions, please let us know.

I suggest you call them, because that response from Bowan G is pathetic, an easy way to deflect the troubles to someone else. Do you know if it's a common issue or just something very few people are experiencing?

Update. I've just called them in the UK, that number no longer works

and it's not super common but there has been quite a few people with similar issues to mine.

Hello Alexander,

Thank you for sending us your DxDiag and MSinfo.

We would like to have you try the following troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issues you are experiencing.

  • Ensure that you have Administrator privileges on the computer you are trying to run the game on.

  • Ensure that all non-essential USB devices are disconnected from the computer for the purposes of troubleshooting. This could include (but isn't limited to): game controllers, flight-sticks, etc

  • Update your video and sound drivers. (Refer to manufacturer’s website)

  • Disable Background Applications.
It is strongly recommended to turn off all background applications when running graphically intensive programs. Many applications can cause errors such as GPFs, color scrambling, loss of sound effects or music, etc. Taking a minute to turn off these applications can save you the trouble of rebooting later. Background applications include such things as System Agent, Norton Utilities, Internet chat utilities, virus checkers and screen savers. Crash guard programs such as First Aid for Windows can also cause problems.

Windows Vista / Windows 7
1. Click on the Windows icon in the lower left corner of the screen.
2. Click on Start Search
3. Type in msconfig and press the Enter key on your keyboard.
4. Click the Continue button if the message "Windows needs your permission to continue"

appears. If this message does not appear, please continue to step 5.
5. On the General Tab, choose Selective Startup.

6. Uncheck the option to Load startup items.
7. Click Apply, then Ok, and restart the system when prompted.

  • Reinstall Direct X Updates
It is possible that the version of Direct X running on your computer is encountering errors with the game you are trying to play. If this is the case, we advise reinstalling Direct X. The latest version of Direct X can be found here http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35

  • Disable SLI/CrossFireX
Many games do not support either the SLI or CrossFireX features of Nvidia or ATI video cards. It is advised to disable SLI/CrossFireX if you are running two or more video cards in the same computer when encountering issues. Please refer to manufacturer’s website for more details on how to enable/disable this feature.

  • Lower Sound Acceleration

Windows Vista/7/8
1. Press Windows + R to bring up the run box
2. Type "control panel" without quotes, press ENTER.
3. Goto Hardware and Sound > Sound
4. Pick your sound device that is set as default
5. click Properties.
6. Go to the Advanced tab
7. Set "Default Format" to 44.1khz 16bit.
8. Click Apply and then click OK to accept the new setting and close the dialog box.
9. Click OK to close the Display Properties dialog box.
10. Restart Windows.

  • Verifying the integrity of the game cache (only applicable if you have the Steam version of the game)
  • Right click on the game in the Steam library and select Properties
  • Navigate to the "Local Files" tab
  • Click "Verify integrity of game cache"

  • Uninstall and Reinstall the game completely.
There is a possibility that some of the files which are installed during the setup process are incomplete or corrupted. Try uninstalling the game completely and reinstalling it under its default or express settings.

If none of the above troubleshooting resolves the issue, please contact us back for further troubleshooting with an updated DXDiag and MSInfo.

thats the reply I got, since we're having the same issue it should hopefully have the same effect. To be honest nothing worked EXCEPT for the reinstall of GTA V, it's longwinded and really a piss take but for me the reinstall actually seems to have worked so far.

still happening to me. game crashes after about 15mins takes me back to social club login and says account is in use somewhere else.
