PC David Rathband

Recommended Posts

Anybody who lives in the United Kingdom or who keeps up with the happening's in this country will know about the Raoul Moat rampage back in July 2010.

If not, I'll explain it to you;

Between February and July 2010, Moat served an 18-week sentence in Durham Prison for assaulting a nine-year-old child, a relative.A former bodybuilder, he was said to be 6 ft 3 in (1.90 m) tall and approximately 17 st (108 kg or 238 lb), and according to relatives was prone to "eruptions of anger"He had a young daughter with his ex-girlfriend, 22-year-old Samantha Stobbart, and two other children from a previous relationship. Moat had one previous conviction for common assault but was arrested 12 times resulting in charges for seven separate offences.

At 2:40 a.m.,Brown left the house to confront Moat but was shot at close range with a shotgun and killed. Moat was reported to have then fired through the living room window while Stobbart's mother was on the phone to the police.Stobbart was hit in the arm and abdomen, and was taken to hospital to undergo a liver operation and put under armed guard.

So how does this relate to PC Rathband and why do I feel strongly on this subject?

At 12:45 a.m. on 4 July, Police Constable David Rathband was shot directly in the face while sitting in his patrol car on the roundabout of the A1 and A69 roads near East Denton Rathband was taken to Newcastle General Hospital in a critical condition with injuries to his head and upper body. He was blinded, causing him to lose the job he lovedThe Guardian reported that Moat had called police 12 minutes before shooting PC Rathband to taunt them and tell them what he was about to do. He did so again some 50 minutes after the shooting, during which he showed little remorse and complained the police are "not taking me seriously enough"

At approximately 1:15 a.m. on 10 July, news agencies reported that at least one shot had been fired in the vicinity of the stand-off.At 1:34 a.m., a police spokesman stated that "a shot or shots" had been fired and the suspect had a gunshot wound. It was reported by multiple sources that police jumped on the suspect, and that police and an ambulance were seen moving toward the site. A statement from Northumbria Police said that no shots were fired by police officers and that the suspect had shot himself; no officers were injured in the stand-off.After the shooting, Moat was transferred to an ambulance and taken to Newcastle General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:20 a.m., shortly after arriva

PC Rathband was found dead in his home today, he had warned people that he "couldn't cope" with life anymore, his wife had cruel fully left him and Northumbria Police failed to give him the support he needed even after his years of service.

I'm looking into joining the police either later this year or next, it's shocking to see something like this happen, it may be the normality in places like America but not here, I truly feel for the family of Rathband even though I had no relation nor knew them or him. Things like this make me reconsider joining as it can happen in a instant, take the London Riots for example.

Its amazing how somebody can still cause someone so much pain even after they are gone. Rathband was innocently sitting in his patrol car, not even partaking in the manhunt when Moat heartlessly shot him.

Just read this story here https://apps.faceboo...ypes=news.reads Harpers report though was better :)

It does seem like he was badly let down by the system. But that said it can be hard to predict this sort of thing. I think as sugested an investigation would be good. If only to better help people in a similar situation in the future.

RIP

It's a shame because something like this is really hard to prevent, if someone is hell bent on killing a cop and he has the shotgun to do it with, then it's really hard to stop it as all it takes is a scenario like this, a lone officer sitting in his car, guy comes up with shotgun, boom. The worst bit is the part of it that can be prevented though, it's painfully obvious that beyond all of the public commitments and promises by politicians and the force, Rathband was given only minimal levels of support and Northumbria Police and the British government completely failed in their duties to be there for him after this incident.

"You tell me exactly what you want, and I will very carefully explain to you why it cannot be."

wow... it's actually pretty much almost unbielevable that something like this can happen to anyone, any officer at ANY time, it's actually really sad the police anywhere don't get the respect they deserve from the general public, yes there is the odd officer that wrecks that trust most of the public have in them, but that does not warrant ANYBODY to shoot a cop in the face for any reason at all.. thank's for posting this harper, may he R.I.P..

the fact that his wife left him for that reason is probably very hard to deal with, and the support the police did not give him is intollerable..

What is really upsetting to hear is that his wife left him... Without family, love and support we are merely nothing, her leaving him spelled the end of his life.

May he rest in peace.

There was once a case here regarding a Metro Police dog unit woman shot in the line of duty, she was disabled and was entitled to a payout and support from the police, but did it ever come? No.

All she had left was her family to support her and survive off what little money she had left, her whole life was ruined, she only had a few months still to live unless she got her payout from the police for a special operation, months went by but the payout never came, the police kept on making excuses but meanwhile it was all misadministration on their side, eventually the debt started to build up, she couldn't pay, her family couldn't help, the police didn't give her the payout she was entitled to, and then she passed away...

People who offer their lives up in the line of duty have all my respect, no matter where in the world or whoever they are, they all deserve to be supported when in need and not neglected such as the cases seen here, even though this what I have just said may be unrelated to this topic, the common factor remains the police not supporting the people in need.
