I thought I would share my experience with a police ride along in central WI. I rode with an officer from 6:30p-11pm. We had several traffic stops mostly for speed but a couple were random running plates and having stuff come back. We also assisted in a traffic stop where a k-9 hit on a vehicle causing a search turning up marijuana.

A lot of the time was patrolling, running random plates, and sitting watching for speed violations. I am convinced this is the career path for me. I was convinced before that but even with the slow sometimes nothing to do patrolling I was still having fun and enjoying myself.

I will be going back out again sometime and am applying for the auxillary volunteer force that helps with large events and transporting people to the jail in a larger city nearby. I couldn't thank the officer enough. He was asking me questions, answering my questions, and overall made me feel at ease in a way that didn't make feel I was bothering him.

Sounds like fun bud, Ive been on 5+ ride alongs including one with a D.U.I Task force (Most departments would never allow it but im really good friends with an officer who could care less if they yell at him :D), If you want I could share a few stories I have .

I've been on numerous ride alongs myself with different departments. I live in Dodge County, Wisconsin. Having a good officer to ride with makes all the difference. I love doing them whenever I can. Like you said it just reinforces the thought of "this is what I want to do". Glad to hear you had a good time, do as many as you can!

For anyone considering law enforcement a police ride along is a must. TV shows and video games aren't "close" enough for you to get a good understanding. Plan on going on a few more ride alongs!

I've been on multiple ride along's myself. Quite the interesting experience. All the RCMP Constable's I've been with we're pretty awesome and we had lots of fun. Most of them were overnight ride along's because they tend to have the most calls.

Going on a ride-along in two months with Michigan State Police, then doing my pre-hire ride-along with Frankenmuth MI PD a few months after that. I can't wait.
