Advice on gaming build

Featured Replies

Greetings to you all.

Recently, I decided to spend some hard earned cash on a gaming desktop. However, this is the first time I'm buying a desktop, specifically for gaming. I know there are a lot of PC gamers on this forum so I'd like some advice on these specs:

- Case: Corsair Graphite 230T Black Window

- Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-Gaming 3

- CPU: Intel Core i5 4690K

- CPU Cooler: Scythe Katana 4

- Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz Crucial Ballistix

- GPU: NVIDIA GTX 970 (ASUS STRIX DC2OC 4G GDDR5)

- Sound card: Onboard audio 7.1

- HDD: 1000GB HD (Toshiba 7200RPM)

- SDD: 128GB Solid State Drive (Crucial MX100)

- PSU: Corsair VS Series VS650

- OS: Windows 8.1

This build would cost me 1.350 euros or 1,511 dollars. Is this a good price for this specific setup or am I paying too much?

I'd like my build to be future proof for a couple of years and play games on high settings.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

For lcpdfr you might want to get windows 7, seems to work better IMO

Looks good. Not sure about the PSU or Hard drive though.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FPtnFTHow about this (it's the US version, should be about the same price though)

Thanks for the advice! I've changed the PSU to a Corsair RM750W. Will come in handy when i decide to go for SLI, I guess.

As for the HD, what would you change? I figured it would be enough with 1TB HD and a 128GB SDD.

I've played lcpdfr on windows 8.1 already and I don't seem to have any issues. What issues are you having?

I am honestly not sure about Toshiba HDDs and how reliable they are. Western Digital and Seagate are the kind of go-to for HDDs and are reliable, especially Western Digital.

Alright, I'll look for another HDD then. Thanks again for the advice.

Win 8.1 user here also.  Issues only included the black screen start up - but that was sorted out quickly, and more so steam related then anything else.

Runs fine.  Very stable on 8.1.  Just dropping by in case this statement has put anyone to doubt about 8.1

EDIT - Also there are some people that run into ownership issues over the folders, and forgot to set them to not read only... sometimes, depending on the privileges you've got set for the harddrive, it can switch the folders back to read only... not good in terms of playing LCPDFR.

Help my channel grow and I can explain to my wife why this addiction to coding is a good thing!

I approve highly of this build.

My only suggestion would be the Hyper 212 CPU Cooler is dirt cheap and about 50% off the price of the CPU cooler you have listed.

I've personally used it for a while, it worked very well.
