Upgrade laptop to run LCPDFR better?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I currently have a Lenovo Z370 Laptop, specs are

CPU: Intel i5-2450M (two cores),

4 Gig Ram,

Dedicated Graphics: GeForce 410M 1 Gig,

Windows 7 64bit.

I can run GTA IV and LCPDFR mod with about 20-25 FPS on decent enough graphics settings (playable enough), however I do get the issues with callouts disregarding, ie not enough resources to allocate to spawn etc.

Looking for a bit of advice whether upgrading the Ram to 8 Gigs would help with this issue. I'm enjoying the mod so much, I was considering buying a new laptop, but really want to ask the experts here whether going up to 8Gig ram would do the job, ie is it the Ram the mod needs, rather than CPU power?

Many thanks for reading.

Replacing your laptop is needed. to run GTA IV and LCPD:FR decently, your whole specs need upgrading. Preferably something with 2gb VRAM (with a modern graphics card), 8gb RAM and a new CPU might be needed (i have little knowledge on CPU).

If you want to buy a new laptop, tell us your budget and i'm sure people will be able to give you a few laptop choices you can choose from so you can have the best LCPD:FR experience =) Keep in mind that laptops aren't the best for gaming (unless it's a laptop designed for gaming), Laptops were originally designed for home/office work and internet browsing (hence why your current laptop has poor specs). If you just want a laptop for GTA IV then there are a few that can do the job.. however if you want one for gaming in general and don't want to pay $1000+ for a gaming laptop, i do suggest you get a desktop computer =)

"Gaming laptop" is an oxymoron.

Your best bet would be to get a desktop computer. You would need a new CPU (duo-core won't be able to process as many entities as well) at the very minimum, and overdoing it there would cause a major overheating problem.

Laptops are much harder to upgrade because the GPU due to the fact that they are usually soldered to the motherboard and CPU as one. Most you can probably upgrade is the RAM, SSD/HDD.

Thanks for the replies.

Do you think the whole system needs updated, bearing in mind I'm not looking for FPS improvements, I just want LCPDFR to have resources to spawn callouts. Some callouts work fine, but some will disregard if I press Y. I would tend to think the bottleneck is the RAM, After OS and GTA IV there's only about 500MB to spare. Or CPU, but the i5-2450M is not too bad really.

Just to clarify, I'm not looking for FPS and performance improvements, the issue is the LCPDFR mod not having resources to spawn callouts. I wish I could justify a better spec laptop just for LCPD:FR but I couldn't :( As fantastic a mod as it is.

Well, you haven't given us a processor frequency, so the best thing found through a Google indicates that it's rated at up to 3.1 MHz.

I'm running a 3.6MHz one and getting many disregards, and last I Checked disregards were because the game could not spawn the required objects.
