Quick question on CPU vs Video Card

Featured Replies

So bare with me, I am not very knowledgable with PC's & I know there are numerous threads like this one but this is a tad more specific.  So after looking at GTA IV, everything meets spec to play except for my video card and of course CPU.

CURRENT:

~ Radeon X800

~ Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6750@2.66Ghz

RECOMMENDED:

~Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz

Now my question is this, if I get a much better video card, will that take care of the issue & my original not that big of an issue OR does the CPU truly have to be updated?

Thanks in Advance.

Your CPU ( Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6750@2.66Ghz) is worse than the one currently running my cellphone. No matter what you do to your video card, your CPU needs to be updated, just make sure you have a motherboard to process it. That video card isn't gonna cut it either. If you wanna stick with a Radeon card i would go for an R7 or above. What kind of computer are you running? Sounds like an old shitty laptop to me. .

My current setup...

  • AMD FX 9590 4.7GHz Octa-Core AM3+ RET WOF
  • MSI 990FXA-GD80 V2 AM3 4X16 XFRX/SLI 4D3 M32 GL R ATX

  • Western Digital 3TB SATA3 7200RPM 64MB Cache Black Ed.
  • Western Digital 3TB SATA3 7200RPM 64MB Cache Black Ed.
  • RAID JBOD Array - Spanned
  • Blu-ray Writer 16x SATA Black Optical Drive
  • X-Sniper2 Black / Blue Chassis

It's a computer a friend had.

My old PC died, I have a wife out of work.  A guy at work gave me his GTA IV game to play but I have not even attempted to install and play because I know this computer is not the greatest.  I looked on "Systemrequirementslab" and it said this:

UPGRADE NEEDED:

Video Card: Radeon X800

CPU: Intel® Core2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66Ghz

OK:

CPU Speed:  2.7Ghz rated at 4.73Ghz

RAM: 4gig

OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit

DISK Space: 268.8gig

Sound Card: High Definition Audio Service

CPU SPEED:

Are you tying to play GTA IV or LCDFR? That setup will gun vanilla GTA on the lowest settings... maybe.... Definitely will not run LCPDFR. The mod takes huge amounts of processor power with the way that GTA is set up. You pretty much need to upgrade both if you wanna play the mod.

My goal is to play LCPDFR.

I play all my GTA games themselves on my console.

Here is where I am stuck, I don't play any games on my PC.  I really like LCPDFR after watching all of the videos on YouTube but I do not want to spend $500 just to play this game so I am absolutely stuck.

Well with the system you are running, LCPDFR will just not be possible. Sorry. That computer is way too low spec.

You could also play other games with that $500 PC.  You'll probably find it a far more enjoyable experience, way better graphics and game play than you'll find on a console.  I know I do.

The mods alone are worth the price of admission.

Good luck!
