LCPDFR In-Game Start-up Error After Downloading ELS V8

Hello,

I've just recently today sat down and actually started everything to play LCPDFR at it's full potential.  I downloaded the new 1.0d version, then a siren, and some vehicles.  With a little bit of learning how to manually install LCPDFR (as I'm VERY not tech savvy), everything was working fine, and I was generally proud of myself.  No crashes (unless you count an error message when you exit GTA), but I still needed ELS to make it even better.

I downloaded ELS V8, and moved the installation files into my GTA IV folder.  Note that, as I'm not tech savvy, I use mainly YouTube installation tutorials made by LCPDFR users so I don't accidentally my whole computer.  So, moving on, I moved the ELS installation files into my GTA IV folder, and was prompted with several messages saying replace this, and replace that.  The tutorial just accepted through them, so as did I.  Lo and behold, when I start up GTA IV and spawn in single player in the apartment, I get the "LCPDFR has encountered an error, please review the .log," or something to that nature.

I'm pretty sure I accidentally replaced a necessary LCPDFR file when I moved those ELS files (when I just accepted through the replace notifications).  Any suggestions what might be going on, or any fixes?

I have to re-install GTA IV, because my idiot self deleted the entire folder for it, as opposed to replacing it with the copy I made.

Like I said, everything was going swimmingly until I installed ELS.  ELS worked when I got in-game, and got a cruiser out, but LCPDF did not, and kept giving me the error message.  Any help is appreciated, but remember, I'm not tech savvy.  I don't know how many times I say that, but someone always thinks I know my way around a computer.  If you have a fix, or an idea of what I might be doing wrong (I think it's when I replaced the files transferring the ELS ones into my folder), please explain it in layman's terms.

Thanks for all you do, LCPDFR

Just leave ELS just where it is and uninstall LCPDFR and simply install it again. It should replace the files you replace with ELS. If you don't want to lose your config in LCPDFR than just download LCPDFR manually install and copy AdvancedHook.dll, ScriptHook.dll, and dsound.dll if you not using Xlive.dll. Now just copy and paste them in you GTA IV Directory, and should repleace the files you replace. If you still have the same problem just post it here and I can try to help you. :D

I manually installed LCPDFR 1.0d to begin with, which seems to run better than just using the auto-installer (I had no crashes with the manual install so far).  I'm re-downloading GTA IV right now, so I'll re-install everything, and try the first option.  I've barely used LCPDFR, so I'm not really concerned about loosing my configuration.

Just so I'm doing the manual download correctly, I do the manual download, and it opens in WinRar.  I highlight the files and drag them onto the desktop, then create a folder, and put the files in there.  I then go to my GTA IV directory (I use the steam version), and drag the files (not the folder) in there.  Should I maybe try downloading ELS first before LCPDFR?

i wouldnt even worry about anything else until you can get lcdpfr running. once ya get the mod up and going then make a backup copy of your gta iv folder. then start experimenting one thing at a time. i also learned alot from youtube and i have links bookmarked for certain problems. so let us know how this is turning out as you go along.

The mod, and the vehicle pack, and siren I downloaded all worked perfectly fine, so no worries there.  It's only when I installed ELS that LCPDFR stopped working.  Like I said, I think that when I replaced those files when installing ELS, they overran files necessary to run LCPDFR 1.0d.

And shouldn't I make a copy of the vanilla folder, along with an LCPDFR backup?

Yes you should make a backup copy just encase, and if your going to install ELS ONLY copy folders common, ELS, and files ELS.asi, and ELS.ini. If it asks to replace, it should ask to replace visualSettings.dat in common/data, just press replace and it should work perfectly fine.

Okay, thanks.  Once my download finishes (which will most likely be tomorrow), I'll get everything re-installed, check that it works, then download ELS and copy those files.  I copied the entire list of installation files it gives you, as the tutorials showed.

So is the older version of AdvanceHook.dll replacing the current one that LCPDFR 1.0d uses?

Alright, so I've re installed GTA, and re installed LCPDFR 1.0d.  There was an issue where it replaced the pc folder, and the main executable stopped working, but that's been corrected by just skipping the replacement.

So, now to get ELS working I just need folders common, and ELS, as well as files ELS.asi, and ELS.ini?

As in, those are the only things I need from the ELS V8 installation folder to make it work?

And thanks to everyone for helping so far!

Disregard my last.  Put those files in, and it works like a charm!  A quick question though for anyone who is still monitoring.  Do some models of vehicles not have secondary lights?  I'm using those black and whites with POLICE - LIBERTY CITY on them that you find if you just search Liberty City Police.  That CVPI, Tahoe, and Charger pack.  Whenever my secondaries are on it just illuminates yellow around where they should be (only slightly).  It will still let me change them, but I'm guessing that the light bar on these models does not have secondary lights.

You are correct, I believe those models do not have secondary lights. You can stop the illumination by opening the config file for the cars (default_config in the ELS folder if you never changed anything) and change these lines on the bottom:

Extra_7 = off
Extra_8 = off
Extra_9 = off

Many thanks!

Two additional questions before I finally get out of your hair.  One: when I first downloaded the mod back on Monday (before I screwed up downloading ELS and had to re install), I could deploy my Taser and it showed up in game.  Now, when I try and equip it, after re downloading everything, it will not show up for some reason.  I know that this is a common issue with people, but I'm wondering if I might have missed something when re downloading the mod.

Second: When toying around with different textures and skins for cars, I replaced my police.wfd and police.wtd with a different vehicle (from the pack I stated above).  The other vehicles stayed the same, as I was just experimenting with vehicles that had secondary lights.  When I opened up the game I spawned in the Hove Beach apartment, and then the screen faded to another loading screen (said Loading... at the bottom like normal) and I spawned immediately in LCPDFR in that car.  I downloaded another different vehicle and the same thing happened, but when I restarted the game, I got into LCPDFR like normal (Alt + P).  LCPDFR still worked when those two incidents happened.  Just wondering if you knew what that might be.

Thanks again!

Also, I don't remember what it exactly is, but I know there's something you can download to make the light reflections off of buildings, etc. in the game blue along with red.  Right now it just reflects red off of walls and buildings and etc., even though my car has blue lights as well.  Do you know what I'm talking about.  It was referenced in a YouTube video I watched a while back, but I can't find it.

1: I've never had any problems with the taser and don't really know how to fix issues with it, sorry.

2: The auto-load to LCPDFR is a feature of 1.0d where, if the game crashed in the last session, LCPDFR will load an auto save so you can continue your patrol.

Alright, thanks again.  Do you know which file includes the Taser in the 1.0d download.  I was going to check to see if I had it.  It worked the first time I downloaded it, back on Monday.  Weird why it's not working now...

And do you know how to make it so that the light reflections coming from your cruiser's emergency lights reflect blue, and not just red.  I'm talking about the actual reflections you see off of walls and stuff at night.  The lights appear blue on the lightbar, but they project red.  I know there's something you can download to change that, I've just forgotten what it was.

The files for the taser are in /pc/LCPDFR.

The lights are controlled by the vehicle configuration file in the ELS folder in this section:

[ ENV_LIGHT_COLORS ]
Extra_1 = red
Extra_2 = red
Extra_3 = red
Extra_4 = red
Extra_5 = white
Extra_6 = white
Extra_7 = amber
Extra_8 = amber
Extra_9 = amber

The main issue is AdvancedHook.dll. ELS comes with an old version that will not work with the latest version of LCPDFR.

That little line right there all tucked away in this post has saved my ass. thanks.
