Weird material problem

Featured Replies

So, I've been working on 2 Dodge Charger models, and when I edit the paint1 material used for the texture (skin/template) to paint3, the whole car just turns black...

This is with the material on paint1:

And this is how it looks when I get a paint3 material:

The materials are set up properly as far as I have checked, so I don't know what would cause this issue...

Any help would be really appreciated!

Thanks in advance:

-Scrimpy

Try switching the first specmap in the paint3 material to the template and see if that works.

Paint3 materials need to be set up like so:

- Specmap (UV #1)
- (anytexture)_1 (UV #2)
- Dirtmap (Multiply, UV #1)
- Specmap (Specular, Multiply, UV #1)

Hope this helps.

I just rechecked it, it's completely set up like that, but it still is all black...

Yes, I just checked it again, and it is on UV #2

Is your material name is something like this or with only the first part changed?

car_sign_1 paint3 [CLR:1]

Yup, it's police_sign_1 paint3 [CLR:1]

Okay it most likely wasn't templated to UV channel #2. I'm not sure how experienced you are with modding so I'll explain.

When you UV map a object you can select what channel to map it too. Here is the window that comes up with the option shown

I think the model wasn't mapped to UV channel #2 but you are telling the material to look for the mapping on #2 but it doesn't exist giving you the black.

Ahhh... That explains it!
