Hi all,

I'm uploading my first video at the moment. It's taking forever though.

I started at around 11AM and it's now 4PM where I am. Youtube says it won't be finished until 8PM....

what really gets me is that the video is only 1 minute,19 seconds long!

Is this how it is for everybody else?

That sounds wrong. I uploaded a HD vid that was about 14 minutes and it took 4 hours I think. Did you upload it straight from Windows movie maker or directly from a document ? Only asking as I did mine direct from movie maker. I'm sure others with more experience than uploading just one 14 min vid will have views as well :)

Edit my broadband is a 10 MB connection.

I would be tempted to restart the upload again. you might have to rename the movie file though

I used fraps to record it to an external hard drive, now i'm uploading the file with youtubes uploader on their website..

Ok are you uploading the version recorded straight from fraps? If so the file size will be huge compared to uploading from movie maker as Molten has. This could be why. It might be wise to use movie maker to convert it and upload to youtube as the resulting file will be smaller than the recording straight from fraps.

Ahh, not sure you can do that. Or maybe you can we need someone with more expertise. But pretty sure it needs to be rendered first. How big is the file. At under 2 mins an unrendered fraps file is still quite large.

Maybe the term render is wrong, but it needs compressing. thats why i use windows movie maker to render my fraps recordings.

It's 0.99GB.....

Man, that file size suprises me, thats probably why.....

That will be about 990 megs and uploads are always slower compared to downloads.

You'll need to compress the video from fraps, Fraps stores the recordings in uncompressed .avi files.

I'll have about 8-10 gigabytes of recording for my 45 minutes videos, after being rendered in Vegas, they're down to 2,5 gigabytes.

Another thing to take into consideration is your upload speed, run a Speedtest, I would advise to do so when the connection is idle, meaning no-ones uploading or downloading anything.

I'm experienced with computers just not with youtube uploads lol :D

The filesize is big because there isnt enough time to encode the movie while the game is running. The movie frames are slightly compressed, but still require a large amount of disk space due to the high resolutions. After you have finished capturing you can convert the clips into a compressed format using a video editing program. Probably the easiest one to use is Windows Movie Maker which is included free as part of Windows Live Essentials. It allows you to easily edit your clips and add text and other effects to your film. The end result will also be compressed into the Windows Media Video (WMV) format which can be played back in most media players. The other option is to follow this tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4t1w-fc_R8E. But for me I edit most of my video using Powerdirector or Sony Vegas Pro, but they are not free.

hmm, maybe you need to uninstall it and then reinstall o=from an other site, I had the same problem and it got fixed my way! Try microsoft.com

Do the caution icons say anything if you hover mouse over them or interact with them in any way ? Also is the fraps file you put into movie maker still .AVI format ? (it should be .AVI by the way) You can open other formats as well but fraps will be .avi

It's odd as not had this issue before.

Edit: was thinking maybe it's an outdated version or something so edytexas may have a point.

When double clicked it says:

The file may be corrupted or in a format that Movie Maker doesn't recognise.

I'm thinking that I may not have the codec installed because even DivX can't open any of my FRAPS .avi files. Only using VLC player can...

Anyone know where I can download the FPS1 Codecs?

Thanks for the link stevetrackboyz, but i managed to fix it :D. I reinstalled FRAPS, it seems the codec wasn't installed when I originally installed FRAPS.

Thanks Guys, I compressed the video and it uploaded in about 15minutes. Now I'm gonna try and find how to record in HD! :D

Then, in windows LIVE movie maker, render it in 1080p

I can't use windows live movie maker, I import the video and I get audio and a black screen. :(

There's no point in rendering in 1080p, 720p is more than adequate.

I render mine in half size, 30 fps. otherwise most of the video will be nothing whatsoever.

I'd suggest that you look into using one of the more basic video editors, I used Cyberlink PowerDirector before migrating to Sony Vegas, most programmes are available for free on a 30 day trial basis.
