cant get rid of a volvo!

Hello again, forums!

 

Some time ago I had a problem with OpenIV. I wasn't able to replace any car in the game.

Today I have a new variation of the last problem! I already tried to fix it like the last one (verifying the game files with steam), but it didn't work.

 

I have installed an unmarked Volvo V70 to the FBI slot. I open up OpenIV and go to common, data, cdimages, vehicles.ide, switch on edit mode and replace FBI. I look at the fbi.wtd (or .wft, cant remember) and I see some other car, absolutely not a Volvo V70. Then I close OpenIV and start the game.

I run outside, spawn "FBI" trough SNT. Now, I should definetly not see a Volvo, BUT it still spawns there!

 

My problem in a nutshell: "cant get rid of this volvo"

 

I even tried to replace the vehicles.ide with backup one, still Volvo!

I tried to verify game files with steam, still Volvo!

 

I just cant stand the Volvo anymore, It's been in the game for a couple of months already.

Why would you ever want to get rid of a Volvo?  They're so good, you can't get rid of them!

 

Seriously though, just copy over your backups and it should be fine. That's the image file though, not ide. You need to copy vehicles.img if I remember correctly :)

yes, .img I mean! It's just not working, I have no idea why... Last time I had this problem with a transit and you told me to verify cache or something, but this time even that does not work. I will the last solution once more, I guess..

Well the .ide file does not contain the model, only the .img contains models. Verify game cache does not always replace files, fyi.

If it still doesn't work, extract the vehicles you want to keep from the vehicles.img, then delete it and let steam verify the game cache again. It should realize the file is missing and replace it with the original one. All you'll have to do then is install the extracted vehicles again.

I just deleted the whole vehicles.img and verified. Then got in game and spawned that Volvo.

 

Has no one really never had this problem??

Assuming you've got multiple game files, are you sure you're verifying/editing the right one? Because what you're telling right now is virtually impossible.

I have only one version of gta IV, I mean, only one installation on my hard drive at the moment. But I also have a backup folder, where I have the original vehicles.img file. I know that this is absolutely impossible, but it has happened to me once before so I know that it is possible to happen on my computer...guess I'll go take some pics to prove this thingy.

Then you're not editing the correct files, because as Super said; It is impossible. Make sure you have read/write permissions on the folder and that it is the correct one.

I searched the GTAIV installation folder under the steam folder and opened the vehicles.img from (GTAIV/PC/MODELS/CDIMAGES) and searched for "fbi", opened the 3d model of it and saw a 2 nd generation Bravado Buffalo unmarked cruiser. Closed OpenIV and started the game, spawned "fbi" and I got a volvo

 

I know, that this is IMPOSSIBLE, but it is happening and I cant stop it! I guess, that I'll just delete the whole folder of GTAIV and reinstall the game overnight.

I hope that it helps, but i've lost my hope on this case already.

If that doesn't work, you have another installation of the game somewhere OR OpenIV is not saving files properly (which wouldn't be surprising as there has been quite a few issues with OpenIV lately).

well, I am 100% sure that I only have one installation on my hard drive and OpenIV can replace other cars just fine. I'm just going to delete the whole game and reinstall it now.

Re-installing the game solved this issue and everything is fine now. Marking as solved, Thank you.

 

EDIT:

this morning, I started the game again and the Volvo was there! It wasn't there yesterday after re-installing, but it got back somehow! what the heck is going on here!?

here comes even more weird stuff:

 

I went to OpenIV and deleted the FBI car files from the vehicles.img.

I started the game, It did not crash somehow.

Spawned the FBI. Now, at this point the game should crash, because the FBI files don't even exist, BUT the game somehow spawned that Volvo again!

 

The Volvo can not in any ways be there, but it still is

Then the file isn't saved, or GTA IV is loading it from another file. It is impossible.

gta 4 is loading the files from "steamapps/grand theft auto iv/gtaiv/pc/models/cdimages" and openiv is editing files from the same location, I even manually searched the file and made sure that there is just a buffalo in the FBI slot. I have re-installed openiv too.

Replacing cars works for every other slot, just not the FBI for some reason. I just put another volvo to the POLICE slot and it worked.

I'm running out of ideas and hope, as this situation is absolutely impossible but it's happening and I am doing everything right.

I have played gta4 since 2010 and lcpdfr for a year now, so I have a little experience too.

And you're sure the file you are replacing with actually is the original and not you backing up the volvo?

I'm replacing the FBI with the FBI that I got from my backup folder, wich has vanilla stuff only and also, in OpenIV the FBI model is the buffalo (when I open the 3d file, I see a buffalo).

But still, in game it's that volvo. I have deleted the other volvo files and that volvo v70 can absolutely not be in my computer anymore.

Then OpenIV isn't saving it properly, it is somewhere else on your machine. It's impossible that it'll load something that isn't there.

How could I solve the possible OpenIV saving problem?

Also, when I get back home today, I'll find and delete every extra vehicles.img file on my computer.
