FOID card in illinois? questions?

Featured Replies

I'm applying for a FOID card this week so that I can get a Taser C2 in the future. I'm 19 years old. Heres two of my biggest questions for you guys who live in illinois.

1. How long is the waiting period for the FOID cards to come back from the Illinois state police? I've heard myself it toke 2-3 months breaking the 30 day law

2. For the signature, what is "Notary Public"?

A Notary Public is someone who observes you signing a document, and verifies that it is actually you signing it (among other things, but this is why you would need one in this case). You must show them ID and they will stamp the document you are signing. I went to my bank when I needed a notary, so check there.

Edit: DO NOT sign it if you need a notary. They must watch you sign.

Thanks..it sucks how illinois is such a strict state.

Still want to know about the waiting period. I have a couple friends with FOID's but I never asked them how long the waiting period toke.

Mine took more than a month as I recall. I forget how the notary thing worked cause its been a few years. But yeah, Illinois laws are always fun to handle.

I don't remember needing a notary. But go to the your local PD and they will help you. Maybe for a small fee. It took my IL FOID about two months. It's rare to get it back quicker. Also didn't realize you need FOID to get a tazer.

Yeah, the Illinios law classify's the taser as a firearm, which is really messed up. I hope in the future that illinois laws can be much loosen. Since I'm 19 I have to get my parents to sign it, and can't own handgun til I'm 21.

Even though the concealed carry law has been in effect for almost a year, there are still alot of places you are prohibited from going, so your very limited to carry your concealed firearm you go in my perspective especially theres alot of no gun signs in posted areas.

You're 19 and need a parent signature? Yes, i know that 21 is the age for handguns, but the taser info is new! Yea I will very rarely run into anyone with concealed carry. I live in chicagoland so the no-gun signs are all over. I would doubt that laws will loosen very much. And a taser is considered a handgun, maybe you could get a taser shoutgun...not so good concealed but still cool.

Nope, Taser's actually discontinued their shotgun round (not that it's actually something that'd be useful to someone who's not police or military; it had a fairly specific niche which required substantial training, and Taser actually didn't even sell them to non-military non-police buyers, and it was *really* expensive, as in >$100 per round, which is why it ended up being discontinued in the first place).

Which is completely bull, cuz my parents are refusing to sign off on it yet I'll be in law enforcement in the future.

I carry my mace around in my pocket but I doubt its going to completely useful.

Any of you guys carry anything to defend yourselves? Concealed sidearm? baton? mace? taser?

I want to carry all my wishlist would be: Glock 19 4th Gen, Black Taser C2, ASP Baton, and my mace. I would make the firearm an absolute last resort and save the trouble in court.
