IV Crashed after attempting to install new vehicle

Featured Replies

Last night i tried to put in a new vehicle but i couldn't figure how so I left it. When i went to start gta iv up today it goes through the title sequence then crashes. Any idea's on how to fix it?

Delete your gamesave, sounds like it may be corrupt.

This is most likely because you either:

1) Saved whilst on patrol.

2) A vehicle that was in a parking space outside has been modded. When gta iv saves your vehicle in the parking spot it also saves the positioning so if a car of a different size is replaced it goes to load the car and is like WTH!

The second option Tom listed I have only seen happen with an SMPA60 error involved. It's possible than when you tried to install your car, you did something wrong that corrupted the .img file. before deleting your savegame, I would restore a backup of vehicles.img (you backed up, didn't you?) and see if that works, or, use Steam to download altered files if you have GTA through steam. To do this, go to Steam, right click on GTA, hit properties, go under local files and hit verify game cache. I would highly recommend trying those BEFORE deleting your savegame.

Maybe your right.. Can't remember to well..

Maybe just move your gamesave to another location, if it doesn't fix it you could just move it back

Yep, just start a new game and go past the first mission so that it autosaves. Then it will automatically be recreated. You will be back to the start of the game though...

Thats the problem. It goes through the sequence with all the people then crashes

From the looks of it to me, I do not think you have enough RAM to be able to successfully run modded vehicles. I would recommend switching back to the old vehicles or purchasing RAM upgrades. You can also try switching DSOUND back to xlivesound to save up some RAM.
