ELS Lights IN Trunk

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

So here's a problem I'm running into. I can't figure out how to "attach" the ELS lights to the trunk of the Tahoe I'm modeling. I would like the two near the rear license plate to stay attached as the trunk is opened (Thanks ELS v8!) and I also need to put two LEDs in the trunk, that are visible when it's open.

Any solutions?

This may not be the most useful post you will get but I can say for almost certain I have seen it done before, however it must've been with a earlier version of ELS because it was a while ago. I don't have a reference, but just wanted to let you know that it is possible if I remember correctly. Hopefully some one can tell you how to do it!

Yes, You could simply drag and drop the L0's (from whatever light your are trying to attach to the boot) to the boot file inside your vehicle hierarchy and an then attach them there so they can open with the trunk in game.

So I attached those light's L0's to extra_1 and extra_4. It won't mess up the lightbar if I drag those out of the lightbar hierarchy?

Also, do I actually need to "Attach" them? As in, use the attach tool in Zmodeler?

Yes you do need to "Actually" attach them to the boot L0 because it will give an error telling you that you have multiple extra 1 L0's and extra 4 L0's.

What you need to do is link them to the boot, not attach them. If you attach certain lightemissive material meshes, they will be always on, and not flashing. If you want it to flash, you need to link an extra part to the trunk. Let's say you want 2 lights to alternate (wig-wag) between each other. For that you should take extra_7 and extra_9 dummies, and link them to the boot dummy. Now whenever you switch the secondary lights on, it'll start to alternate between the 2 lights and you can also open the trunk, and the lights will stay attached to it. You shouldn't attach any other lights that's not supposed to be attached to the trunk, because if you do, and you open the trunk, their position will move.

Yes, as Sgt.Kanyo stated, any dummies you put in the boot hierarchy can not have any other lights associated with them or they will move when the trunk is open. If you don't wanna mess with the primary dummies i suggest you use the secondary dummies.

If you don't know what linking is: You can do that by taking a look at your hierarchy on the left (where everything is listed, and you can expand stuff. Like look for chassis, chassis_L0, chassis_L1, chassis_L2 etc.). Let's say the extra parts you want to be attached to the boot are extra_5 and extra_6. So what you do is look for extra_5 and extra_6 (at least 2 meshes should be linked to those, one *_L0 and *_L1). So you grab (click and hold with the left mouse button) onto extra_5 and you drag it all the way to boot (boot_L0 and boot_L1 will be linked to that) and you drop (let go of the left mouse button) it when the boot is highlighted. I think everything else is self explanatory.

ok so the linking them would be (relink children) under Attach box? Sorry I'm new at this only started yesterday but I'm learning fast. Somethings I have yet to learn and somethings may take time, but for most part I personally prefer videos upon learning but if no one can make on that's fine ill just try and follow what you where saying. But what I don't get is if you have all the extra_5 lights attached will they all be linked/attached to the boot? I know that linking and attaching is different but that's what I don't get

Go to 24:11  When he grabs windscreen_ok in the hierarchy, and drags it onto windscreen (that is the dummy itself) that's what linking means. If windscreen_ok had something linked to it, it'd stay linked to windscreen_ok, even after you link windscreen_ok to something. When something is attached to something, you can't see that, because 2 meshes after attaching one to another becomes one mesh. You can only attach 2 meshes, not dummies. So if he'd say attach windscreen_ok to windscreen_L0, the 2 meshes would be in 1 single mesh called windscreen_L0.
