GPU Upgrade help

Featured Replies

Hey guys I'm thinking upgrading my computers GPU, it orignally came with Radeon 6530D but it can't run GTA in High settings. I can still run the game with medium setting and with Game4video enb but I have to be on low resolution.

My PC Specs:

AMD A6-3620 Quad Core 2.2ghz and turbo up to 2.5ghz. But I overclocked it to 2.8ghz

AMD radeon 6530D 512mb dedicated memory

6GB DDR3 ram.

Now the problem with upgrading my GPU is that I have slim PC so I can only take low profile video cards and my power supply is only 220 watt.

I don't want to get a new PC cause i got mine in 2012 and my computer is really fast, I can handle most of the games but with low screen resolution and graphics, so I know its my GPU that can't handle the games.

I was thinking of going for AMD radeon 7750 HD or 6570HD because there both low Profile.

If you guys can recommend a Low Profile GPU for me it would be appreciated.

7750 is a pretty decent card and would recommend it but dont expect to play the game at 1080 at 40+ fps with enb. 220 watt is really stressing it, I suggest you upgrade your PSU. Cutting it REALLY close

Feel free to PM me for help! Also please hit the like button if anything I said helped or made ya laugh. Specialty is computer hardware and assembling so feel free to ask anything if you need help :)

Thanks for the reply.

Since it's slimline PC I cant really upgrade the power supply. I'm going to play games at 1280x720 at least so I think the 7750 will handle it.

The HD 7750 will draw its power through the motherboard and on a PCIe x16 lane that is about 75W. The same with the HD 6570. Granted they will only draw as much power as they need, but you'll hit a wall fast.

Your current processor needs at least 65W. Since you have it overclocked a bit, and I'm not sure on the method you did that, it may want a little more juice.

Then one stick of ram will eat ~5W. If you have 2 that is 10W. Throw in your fans that are probably standard and you might consume another ~10W total.

Your hdd if it is a normal 7200 rpm will probably be about ~25W for just one drive. I think it is roughly the same amount for an optical drive so another ~25W.

You're already redlining at this point in in your power consumption. Granted the power consumption of each component is dependent on its status, but you should assume for near maximum draw when working with power and provide yourself with mucho room for expansion. In my honest opinion, you will probably be able to use an upgraded card, to an extent, during times of maximum draw or maybe not a whole lot of draw your system could shut down//blue screen, etc.

I'm just providing you my insight, you don't need to listen to it.

Since everyone seems to have the nitty gritty covered, I'll just try and give you some somewhat useful tips.

I can tell that you aren't wanting a new computer, so you obviously don't want to upgrade a s**t ton, and I totally understand that. First things first, you have to see if your motherboard will be able to incorporate the GPU, just to be safe, even though 9/10 you're fine when it comes to motherboard compatibility. Since your CPU doesn't seem all that powerful straight out of the box, I would strongly recommend you get something at least 2.8GHz straight out of the box, since overclocking isn't the safest thing to do either. One thing a lot of PC builders face is bottlenecking, which essentially means there is something restricting a component from performing to its full potential. So, if your GPU was too strong for your PSU, you would encounter a "bottleneck" situation, restricting the GPU from performing as well. As for your PSU, that is a must to upgrade before getting this new GPU of yours. The PSU is very important, and your PC may not even power up if the GPU you end up getting is too powerful for it.

To sum that up in 3 easy steps, 1) make sure your motherboard will support the new GPU 2) possibly get a new CPU 3) avoid bottlenecking by getting a new PSU.

SCNG FTW!!

Upgrade your PSU before upgrading your GPU. Your computer might blow up if you add a good GPU to a 220 watts

he's right, always give extra power like 100watts or 200watts... if the power supply touch the limit  mother board will shut it down or it will explode and you will smell what shame is... burned cables... with no more computer...
