Random Crashes

Hey, I just updated to 1.0b recently after doing a clean install of EFLC. I'm still getting a lot of random crashes.

 

I have a few other mods installed. Simple native trainer, vdH coroner and tow service, TrafficFlow and OvertakingFix.

Here are my logs so the devs can hopefully iron out all the problems. Had to attach them as files because the forum keeps giving me an error if I try to paste them in as spoilers.

Ok can you upload a screenshot of your GTA IV directory for me please, also are you running GTA IV on the latest patch (in this case for EFLC it's 1.1.2.0 I believe)

When you installed LCPDFR did you install just 1.0b or did you install 1.0 and then 1.0a and then 1.0b? 1.0b is an all included pack, it has all of the latest patches in it so you only need 1.0b.

That is the way I would do it to, even though it's a 20 minute download from steam for me, easier to just extract it all from a zip.

 

Ok so, try removing all your other mods and just run LCPDFR and see if it still crashes as frequently. LCPDFR only really supports an unmodded copy of GTA IV, so while it may well run with other mods, it will decrease the stability quite a lot. Especially things like trafficflow and overtakingfix.

I tried removing trafficflow and overtakingfix and crashed again. I'll try removing all my mods.

I tried removing trafficflow and overtakingfix and crashed again. I'll try removing all my mods.

Yeah normally LCPDFR crashes are all logged. So that suggests the issue isn't LCPDFR itself.

Let me know what happens when you have removed all of your mods.

Crashed after about 3-4 hours gameplay and being paused for 16 hours or so. By modded GTA4 standards I guess that's a marathon. :P

My only concern is that it didn't log the crash once again.

I should probably be happy with the stability I get compared to some people. But I just miss the stability of 0.95 RC2. I don't recall getting many crashes and I usually quit the game manually. With 1.0 I usually crash before I get bored of the game. Although it could be that I just have more fun with 1.0 and play longer. :P

 

Since you say that crashes are normally logged I'm starting to wonder if one of my ASI/.net/C++ loaders are messed up. I'm going to try updating my loaders to the latest version provided by the authors because it appears that LCPDFR installs an outdated version of DSOUND.dll. The copyright notice in the asilog.txt shows a copyright of 2008 when the latest version was released in 2009.

 

I'm also going to delete all my logs and then go for another marathon to see if any errors show up in the other logs when it crashes. I'm not sure if the errors that appeared in my .net log are caused by another mod or LCPDFR.

That's about the normal play time for 1.0b. The 1.0 release of LCPDFR was much more resource demanding than 0.95 due to all the changes made, as a result it may appear to not run as well as the older version, but in fact it's running more stuff than the old version and so, technically handles better :P

 

You can try that and see what difference it makes, as a suggestion as well it might be advisable to close any other applications while running GTA IV with LCPDFR just to boost the available system resources.

Well I crashed less in 1.0b with preloading disabled than in 1.0a. So I guess I don't really need it on anymore. Someone mentioned the fix to the problem in 1.0a was going to be to make preloading on by default. I guess the devs found a proper fix instead.

 

I have no car mods installed. I think GTA is running out of memory due to preloading being on. However I think I got the taxi bug with it off as well.

Wasn't a crash, but LCPDFR didn't seem to be running properly anymore. It happened when I accepted a call while getting a burger and BurgerShot. Got a notice in the upper left corner of the screen saying to report the error.

 

EDIT:
Got that after about 10 minutes. I'm assuming the burgershot animation might be the cause.

I have a feeling that the crashes I was getting with other mods installed were due to running out of memory.

Yes this is the correct place to be posting error logs. I see that you keep getting the reference not set to an instance error. To my knowledge that is being looked into and fixed.

As for the taxi glitch, if you have 8GB of RAM yes it is still highly possible to get the taxi glitch, it happens if you have high poly vehicle mods or the game has an issue with the memory being used (maybe by a script etc) the game defaults to the lowest poly vehicle (the taxi) to spawn in.

 

Try running GTA IV with less car models, or low poly ones. And running it alone without other programs open.

I've reinstalled all my mods again and I still can't figure out which one is causing the crashing. Remember how the LCPDFR.log didn't have an error? Do you think I should make a post in the GTA support section for help figuring out which mod is causing the crashing?

The mini-dump file is made by advanced hook, it can be opened with visual studio to debug the faulting module and see what caused the crash.

If it is not LCPDFR causing the crash it is definitely one of your other mods. Did you install them one by one and see?

I guess I was a little too impatient. I'll try removing TrafficFlow and OvetakeFix first. But since the problem is logged by AdvancedHook, wouldn't that mean the problem is with LCPD:FR or ELS v8? I didn't have ELS before so I'm assuming LCPD:FR was the only thing using AdvanceHook.

Got another crash with no log. Only had Simple Native Trainer installed this time. I'll try playing without it and see what happens.

If it's my trainer causing the problem, should I speak to the developer of the trainer or should the LCPD:FR team deal with it? I only get the crashes while LCPD:FR is set to on duty.

Is there any way to stop the out of memory error when I close EFLC? I've tried manually installing the taser several times and it doesn't seem to stop the error.

 

 

Btw here's another error log for the devs. Got this one while arresting a drunk hooker that I was doing a traffic stop on. She fell to the ground beside her car and wouldn't get back up even after moving her car, tasing her and kicking her.

Does the fact that I'm using the steam EFLC.exe with a retail install have anything to do with it? I would assume it's the cause with a third-party crack, but this .exe is made by Rockstar themselves.

Please note that I am not using a pirated copy. I own the DVD and a legit key that I have registered on GFWL. I just hate swapping disks in and out of my optical drive.

Does the fact that I'm using the steam EFLC.exe with a retail install have anything to do with it? I would assume it's the cause with a third-party crack, but this .exe is made by Rockstar themselves.

Please note that I am not using a pirated copy. I own the DVD and a legit key that I have registered on GFWL. I just hate swapping disks in and out of my optical drive.

Just realized it's the launchEFLC.exe that I replaced with the steam version, not the EFLC.exe

Sorry for the very delayed response. I haven't been as active in the support forum recently due to other commitments including coding work I'm doing and IRL events.

 

I'll try to answer as many of your questions as I can.

 

Ok firstly the error you keep getting in LCPDFR, "object reference not set to an instance of an object" I'm unsure as to why this is happening. I can but only assume it's a code segment faulting somewhere and that the devs are probably looking into it if they haven't fixed it yet. 

 

The out of memory error you get cannot be fixed, it's just a generic thing which happens when you mod GTA IV. It won't cause any harm so you can just ignore it.

 

Lastly if you have the steam copy of the game, why are you using a crack? Steam can launch the game without any need for a retail copy. I'm a bit confused as to what you're doing there.

Ah, I was starting to think you weren't replying because the minidump showed I was using a crack and you thought I was pirating the game. Sorry for quoting you so many times. :P

 

I downloaded the launchEFLC.exe off a forum. It was said that the file was simply a copy of the one from a steam install of EFLC.

 

I remember reading from a post made by a staff member that the manual taser install got rid of the out of memory error. Guess that was some kinda mistake or maybe I misread.

 

I'm not sure if that "object reference" error is causing me any problems. I haven't noticed anything odd happening except when I get an error in the main loop and a popup in-game. Only thing that bothers me is these logless crashes. Every time these happen I get a minidump however. The one I posted earlier should hopefully show what's going on. AdvancedHook claims that it's my EFLC.exe that's faulting.
