This Is A Bit Hard To Explain About My PC, But It Is Super Annoying.

Featured Replies

OK so i'll try to explain this the best i can. So i have the audio from my PC coming out of speakers now my computer is giving a kinda weird like 'buzzing' sound or like a slight whistle sound and i wan't to try to stop it cause it's really annoying the only way to stop the sound from being heard is to have some kind of loud audio playing over it like music, youtube, my table side fan. But i want to try to cut it out all together.

Also think of it this way, when i start GTA IV or EFLC the whistle sound get's louder as it's loading and the only way i found to stop the sound is if i make the FPS steady by recording the game with FRAPS. Know because of this does it have anything to do with my computers FPS jumping around?

Also the other day i changed my room around and when i first started up my computer i didn't have the whistle sound but it just started up again today, i saw a youtube video that said it could be happening because the computer is plugged into a power strip so i plugged my computer directly into the wall but it didn't change anything.

I tried being as specific as possible when explaining my problem, I hope one of you computer wiz people can help me with this. I am lost when it comes to a PC's hardware.

Hi,

That is certainly a very peculiar issue you have. At a guess I would say you might have a loose fan, or the airflow is being restricted somewhere. You may even have a small crack/hole somewhere which is letting air through.

Buzzing noises could be a loose bearing in one of the fans, or it could even be a fault with the HDD (although less likely)

If the sound gets louder when you increase the load on the machine (such as running GTA IV) then it is most definitely due to a defective fan somewhere, system fans (the ones plugged into your motherboard directly, like the CPU fan) or the graphics card fans, will increase speed dynamically depending on how much stress they are under.

My advice is to check that none of the fans have too much play in them (they can be wobbled, pushed or don't rotate smoothly). Or to replace them.

Try giving your pc a good cleanout, switch it off and hoover out any dust (especially around the fans). And see if that helps.

Generally speaking it wont cause your pc any harm, at most if the CPU fan fails, your system will automatically shut itself down to prevent it overheating.

Check your cables. Buzzing is often a symptom of a bad connection. It's certainly not unusual to have buzzing in a sound system. Does it happen with different speakers?

If your CPU fan does have an issue, it most certainly is an issue. If your CPU overheats (or if a different component does), your computer shuts down hard - there is no warning, it just shuts off suddenly. While it reduces the damage done, your computer shutting its power off to protect itself means something has gone terribly wrong, and if it happens too often, parts will get damaged. Shutting it down reduces the damage, but it's by no means healthy to have a computer part overheating on any sort of routine basis.

Ok i'm going to check it know to see if anything is loose and if it needs dusting i'll be sure to clean it off.

Yes this also happens if i use the headphones built into my headset. But it was also a pre-built computer bought from Newegg so some parts could have gotten loose during the shipping

Uck, Newegg. Open it up, make sure some cables aren't overlaying eachother etc.

Yea, i'm going to do this ASAP in the morning

I did have the same problem, but it was coming from my computer.

How did you fix it?
