Making your GTA + ELS running smoothly

Recommended Posts

So today i discovered a way make my GTA, policehelper, spotlightmod, ELS, Bravehearts policiing script, vpCallouts, & RCMP car pack(i found it somewhere on the internet) running smoothly (a good 2 hours of gameplay with NO errors!)

I dont know if i was just lucky or what. But if you have problems like i did to its worth giving this a try

Pros': It stops lag, makes your ELS be REALLY fast, and removes most errors

Cons': It downgrades graphics a bit

1) Goto your desktop

2) Create a notepad document called "commandline" (without the "")

3) Paste this

-availablevidmem 2.0

-NORESTRICTION
-NOMEMRESTRICT
-AVAILABLEVIDMEM 6.0
-PERCENTVIDMEM 100
-width 800
-height 600
-refreshrate 60
-novblank
-texturequality 0
-renderquality 0
-viewdistance 0
-detailquality 0
-shadowdensity 0
-nomemrestrict
-norestrictions
-availablevidmem 2.0
-percentvidmem 100
-noprecache
-safemode
-fullscreen
-minspecaudio

4) Save the notepad
5) Drag it into your GTA IV main directory
6) ???
7) Play without those goddamn errors

Okay, I am all for commandlines, but before giving advice about them, make sure you know what your own commandline does.
Let's break it down, shall we?

availablevidmem 2.0
-NORESTRICTION
-NOMEMRESTRICT

Here, you are telling the game to use 2gb of video memory, and have no restrictions on them. So far, so good.

-AVAILABLEVIDMEM 6.0
-PERCENTVIDMEM 100

But here, you are telling the game to use 6 gb of video memory, and thus scrapping the above line. THEN you tell the game to use all available video memory and thus scrapping the line once again.

-width 800
-height 600
-refreshrate 60
-novblank
-texturequality 0
-renderquality 0
-viewdistance 0
-detailquality 0
-shadowdensity 0

All these are fine, if you want your game to look bad. Nothing wrong with that, as it will increase performance.

-nomemrestrict
-norestrictions

These lines have already been used.

-availablevidmem 2.0
-percentvidmem 100

And here you tell the game to once again use 2gb video memory, and scrapping the 100% one. THEN you tell the game to use 100% video memory again, and scrapping the 2gb line from just then.

-noprecache
-safemode
-fullscreen
-minspecaudio

These are all fine, but I tend not to want to run a game in safe mode.

Instead of using the above commandline, consider using this one instead:

-renderquality 0 -shadowdensity 0 -texturequality 0 -viewdistance 0 -detailquality 0 -novblank -norestrictions -percentvidmem 100 -minspecaudio -novsync -renderquality 0 -frameLimit 0 -nomemrestrict

Yes, this one will make the game look bad.
If you feel a improvement with that line, you could try switching to this one:

-novblank -norestrictions -percentvidmem 100 -novsync -frameLimit 0 -nomemrestrict

Feel free to add the following lines if you wish

-width 800
-height 600

EDIT: While ELS cars and ELS look pretty, they will make the game crash more often had you not used ELS. Your specs may improve that, but the GTA IV engine (RAGE) wasn't meant to handle the things that modding does to it.

Hey Ineseri,  what are the following lines for?

-noprecache
-novblank

I use those in conjunction with -availablevidmemory 4 line, that's it.

I know the "-availvidmemory" line make my game run so much better with minimal lagging, I've tried various settings from 2-6.  Wondering if the first two lines have anything to do with that or if I should just get rid of them.

EDIT:  Actually, after removing the first two line above, the game lags pretty bad.  Put them back in, smooth again.  I'm just using those three lines and I'm getting good performance at med/high settings.

Thanks,
