Problem With CD/DVD Drive

Featured Replies

I haven't played GTAIV in close to 3 weeks now, went to go launch it last night and it say's the drive is not found & I can't update the driver, looked all over google and tried solutions provided, but for some reason the troubleshooters aren't working, the drive itself works, just won't launch anything

this is the error I get:

"No DVD/CD Drive Detected"

Makes no sense and this is the second time this has happened in the 4 years I've had it.

anyone?

This might be a really stupid question but.. uhh.. you have the disc in the drive, correct?

LOL I haven't taken it out since I bought the computer Bahaha

lol :p It could be some corruption with Windows too, which should be easily amendable by opening up a commandprompt and typing:

sfc /scannow

This should verify the Windows files. Other than that, I am quite clueless to what could be wrong.

Try uninstalling Itunes. Oddly enough, that worked when I had this problem.

I'm pretty sure it's Apple trying to screw with people without Macs. Is Itunes uninstalled now, and is the CD Drive working?

Uninstalling Itunes and trying to play GTA 4 while it's stil uninstalled. I know it sounds strange, but Itunes screwed with my CD-Rom drive a few weeks ago.

Would ICloud & all that have to be uninstalled?

I don't know, since I didn't have ICloud before I installed then uninstalled Itunes.

Please note when doing the sfc /scannow command in the CMD prompt, you have to be in an elevated permissions cmd console.

To do this, go into your search bar and type 'cmd'. Command prompt should show up in the list of programs you can run, right click it and hit "Run as Admin". Once the prompt appears, enter your command it should work. I've had issues with this before. I'm not too sure if disabling the UAC actually would work for this but I've gotten to work before doing what is above.

Other than that it could be a number of things. The cable connecting to the CD Drive could be loose. CD drive could be dead. GTA IV is being mean, etc.

Yeah I managed to figure out the CMD Prompt earlier after I googled how to use it (lol)

But if the drive was dead there wouldn't be power, would there? cause the green light still flashes when I open it & it still opens it, I uninstalled the hardware last night & turned on my computer this morning & it was automatically found, but still, can't find driver updates because it just says it's not installed.

@c13- Your suggestion worked, I uninstalled all the ITunes stuff and the drive works fine now, is there anyway around not having ITunes?
