Australia Day

Happy Australia day

Australia is around  225 years old, as a nation its only 113 years old as it federated on January 1st 1901 but we didn't become fully independent until the statue of Westminster and although that was in 1931 we didn't adopt it until 1942 and the last ties with the British government weren't severed until 1986 when the Australian government introduced the Australia act so i guess you could say that Australia has only been fully independent from the British government for about 26 years

As I'm an Australian, And don't really like aussie that much anyway. I like to say to all Australian people to have an great happy day on the beach or an good old aussie bbq.

You're one day late. Australia day was yesterday, the 26th. You're not going off Northern Hemisphere time-zones are you? If you are, I guess this topic being posted today (the 27th) makes sense since it's still the 26th there.

Did you know that Burke and Wills were the first white explorers to cross Australia from South to North. They left Melbourne in August 1860 and reached the Gulf of Carpentaria in Queensland in February 1861. They both perished near Cooper's Creek on the return journey. Another of the interesting facts about Australia is these days there are about 115 people in gaol (jail) in Australia per 100,000 of population. In the USA it is about 715, Russia is about 585, New Zealand is about 160, Japan is about 54 and Canada is about the same as Australia at 116.

Women were given the right to vote in Australia in 1902.
