Sony VAIO Driver Issue

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,

I've searched everywhere on the internet for a solution and I just can't seem to find one, so I'm reaching out to the tech wizards of LCPDFR! Around 1 month ago, I turned my laptop on and it said something along the lines of:

No operating system found.

I had no idea what had happened. I put Windows 8 .iso which it was previously running on the laptop onto a USB and booted from USB. That worked fine but when I clicked 'Install Now', it said that windows cannot locate any of the drivers for the laptop. The only way I could get my laptop working was by installing Ubuntu from a USB. My laptop is a:

Sony VAIO SVF1521P2EB

My laptop didn't come with a recovery disc. I have tried all sorts and it just doesn't seem to allow me to put Windows on the laptop. I sent my laptop back to PC World where it was purchase and they said there is nothing they can do, it's missing the original drivers. What do I do now?

My girlfriend has exactly the same laptop as me. Is it possible to make a recovery USB from her laptop and plug it into mine and make my laptop work?

Any help at all would be appreciated!

Thank you!

In addition to my previous post, I have found out the issue with my laptop. All the partitions have gone and there is nothing on there, not even the recovery partition . I can't even load up Windows to try and fix this issue. Anyone any ideas?

^I don't thin anyone is friendly to MS-DOS these days bud...

My motherboard is Gigabyte they semi-friendly to MS-DOS for drivers like SATA :)

Edit:@op you need to unzip through 7zip or winrar (only drivers) and then put into flash drive or cd and install through win install

At this point? Get a Windows installation media and reinstall the operating system.

Is this specific to my laptop or is it just a universal disc for any laptop?

It is possible to use any installation media, be that USB or DVD.

Do you have a link to an example of what I can buy to fix it please? Not too sure what I'm looking for.

You can buy windows from most tech retailer really.

So buying this for my laptop and installing it will give me the required partitions and drivers etc because I don't want to spend that much and it not work?

Windows installation haven't got all computers drivers, so no, it doesn't install your pc drivers. Look at my post above. You just need flash and another computer. I think you partition disappear or your hdd damaged.

Bumping this just to let everyone know how I resolved this issue:

I inserted a Windows 7 installation disc which installed windows. I then had to download the drivers for my laptop (which were found on manufacturers website) on my computer, put them on a USB and transfer them to my laptop. I then had to install drivers to my laptop. I only installed the ethernet driver so then I could connect it to the internet and do the rest on the laptop. Now it's all working fine. Thanks for the advice everyone!

Three ways to install drivers:

-Use Windows update and hope that most devices are generic enough where Microsoft will have base drivers for them.
-Use a factory recovery disc or a Windows disc.
-Search using the Hardware ID found in 'Device Manager', and cross reference that with Google and the manufacturer's website.

Now that you have everything running, I'd strongly recommend you make a recovery disc or at least copy the drivers onto a USB drive.
