New car!

This seems like a fun project for you and I wish you the best of luck with this. Enjoy your Crown Victoria, pal. Treat her well. Seems like she's taken a beating while in use by law enforcement but I'm sure she's still got some kick left in her.

  • Lmao didn't mean for this to be a flame war.   I paid $3500 for the car. Around here thats a good price as the cab drivers drive the price up like you wouldn't believe. As for them being a money pit

  • Prepare your check book because old cop cars are money pits...   Also prepare to be arrested, because what you said you are going to do is highly illegal and personally if I saw someone doing what y

$3,500 for that! That isn't a bad price at all! I found a retired CVPI with 100,000 miles on it not far from where I live and they were wanting $6,000 for it. It had rust and dents all over it. :( Although I found another one that was around the $3,000 mark and it was in decent shape and only had 86,000 miles. It needed a new transmission, new tires, and some engine work done. :( If only, if only. I can't wait to see pic of the car when you're done!

Just be careful what you do and put in it. We hammer people here in Florida that outfit their cars to look even more like in service cars just to have them look like actual police vehicles, trust me, I did the same thing just for fun and never acted like a cop but got in enough trouble just because of how it looked and it almost cost me my real career in Law Enforcement before it even began

It's really no different if I were to outfit a Hyundai Elantra with lights, sirens, wigwags, etc, if your not giving the Police any reason to watch you, there shouldn't be a problem, if I bought an F-150 and put a push bumper on it, does that make me a wanna be? no, it doesn't makes me like everyone else, difference is we own crown vics,  people that put Red/Blue lights in their vehicles that aren't cops disgust me & make this the reason people frown upon guys like us buying a crown vics, because they abuse the fact they are driving a crown vic, I know a lot of people who are crown vic fanatics & are not wannabe's, i'm not a wannabe, but I do like lights, a lot, I don't drive with them on, I have good judgement & I'm mature enough to know the consequences if I do abuse it..

They are indeed money pits, but any vehicles can be, cop cars were maintained better than most cars on the road but unfortunately American Police have way less restrictions than Canadian Police, so they beat the fuck out of them..

Any car is worth the money if that is the vehicle you want to drive.

Is that site new or something? They only have two cars :/

It's been up for a while, it's just that they're so popular, as soon as one turns up, it's gone - they used to have an NYPD FCVPI, really nice condition, but it went after just 5 hours after being published. See the picture below.

As far as I'm aware, the company buy off civilians as well as PoliceForces direct, so the previous owner might have changed a few things!

Alright. In my opinion it seems that by changing equipment like that would ruin the car's original feel. Without the same NYPD pushbar nor the original Vision SLR lightbar, it just not the car that you'd expect when you were looking for a retired NYPD Crown Vic.

This company is based in my town, and I visited this place a few years ago with my mum when she needed a car (and no, she wasn't after a CVPI!). There were a few Crown Vics and Dodge Charger Pursuits there, (including one CVPI which had been in a head on collision with a Ford Focus on a US Freeway). I've promised a friend that I'll take him to this place at some point, he loves Crown Vics!

As for the equipment it is not illegal. Amber lighting can be used by anyone, anytime on either public roadways or private property. The siren can only be used on private property, however the airhorn and P.A. function can be used on public roadways. Dash camera, well, I mean I believe every car should have one. The partition, not illegal. Motorola radio, not illegal. Radar, eh I'm not sure about this one.

But like I said, I'll post a thread on the build here in the future. I'm going to be taking out roughly $1,500 in a personal loan to buy all my equipment!

I get why you would want to install equipment like the lighting and siren box, as they have a practical use, but I really don't see the point in installing a functional radio. I could see if you had a ham radio license or something, but sinking a couple hundred bucks into something you can't even legally use just seems like a waste of money to me (especially since you are going into debt to buy it).

Police scanners are legal, you just can't talk to cops legally over them, a couple tow trucks in my companies fleet have 2 (I think) & they use them to chase car accidents, when Police are on scene, I've had a couple.

I personally can't understand why people have to over do it, Radio's, spotlights or even a siren, you can't use it, well you can but you don't want to attract attention to yourself and are not normal things to have in a car in any way shape or form, my buddy that outfits RCMP vehicles is going to get a custom built armrest with the light switches I need.

Amber strobes tubes will be wired for the amber strobes only

white Strobes tubes will be wired to white strobes only

Amber Whelen Vertex will be wired to each other on their own

Wig Wags will be wired by themselves

all of these will have their own individual switch & will be able to be hidden inside the armrest, i'm not looking to be like 'Hey guess what Officer I have the same shit you do, come search my car, it's SOOOO cool", after all these are installed it will hardly be driven except to car shows.

Your setup sounds pretty sweet!

I have all the lights minus 2 Whelen Vertex I may pick up next Wednesday, the White marker lights, Reverse lights & tail light strobes I already have installed on another switch, but these are the ones I have now in the pics, just have to get them installed.

I just watched the videos you put on the UTube of your Crown Vic. It is really sweet. Defininetly can't wait to see your car finished, and the OP's car finished.

I'll post a vid once I have them installed, i'm putting the Vertex on my mirrors & the other 2 on the black part of the trunk lid, my buddy is charging me $500.00 to install everything, really good price considering the light distributor out here wanted to charge me $800.00 for 4 strobes & I have 6 in there now that cost $250.00 to install.

Your point actually came up in somebody else's thread. Putting flashing lights and sirens on a non-emergency vehicle is not illegal. He can legally put all the lights and sirens on his car that he wants, as long as the lights are amber lights, and only used on his private property, his own private road, an empty parking lot, or in a parade. If he were to put red and blue lights on his car and use them on the road, that is very illegal.

Maybe not in Pennsylvania but it is ILLEGAL in Canada (the whole country) as stated in the Highway Traffic Act.

"Flashing red lights, visible from any direction on a vehicle, are restricted to law enforcement vehicles only.  This restriction does not include four way flashers or tapping the brake pedal to produce an on and off effect with the brake lights.  In addition to this, red lights and red and blue combinations of lights to the front are also restricted to law enforcement vehicles.  Flashing blue lights are restricted to police vehicles and snow removal vehicles, but only while they are actually engaged in the removal of snow (or de-icing, etc).  Flashing green lights are restricted to volunteer fire fighters."

It is section 62 if I recollect.

I see you are from Nova Scotia Slimory, be careful you appear to be treading on thin ice if you completely recreate your vehicle and drive with it. I also wouldn't be surprised if you were to be charged with impersonating a peace (public) Officer if you were caught driving with the lights on (or even off). I'm not trying to piss you off or stir the pot just saying what I know. I do also know cops look for these things, both parents are mounties, and my dad has had incidences in his place of work where people impersonating cops have taken advantage of the public (its not that they assume if you have a car that looks like a police car you are an evil person, it is simply the fact you will LOOK like you have more authority then you may actually have).

Just read your lights are white lights, that's cool. I have no idea what that would entail legally. Might ask my parents out of curiosity.

May I ask why you have a radar if your security?

Just curious.

Lighting, I can understand, but the siren and radar I don't understand? I figured security corporations requiring security would provide them vehicles?

Everything needs more lights.

I don't have red or blue lights, so I don't see how this pertains to me, i'm not "recreating" a police vehicle, I am putting lights in a vehicle that are neither red nor blue, I could buy them LEGALLY but i'm not that stupid, all highway clearance (snow plows or any kind of service vehicle ONLY have amber lights not blue) I thought it was weird though, I saw a Nova scotia power service truck the other day with white headlight strobes, I don't see how i'm "treading" on thin ice, I don't have any equipment that says i'm a cop or that i'm trying to pull people over nor do I have green lights, they can't pull you over for having them as they are not illegal to have, I have asked this question over & over, & I have gotten the same answer everytime "The lights don't pose a problem legally, they are NOT to be used on public roadways but can be used on private property".

I don't have radios

I don't have a push bumper, but it's not out of the ordinary to have one, I see car/trucks rolling with them all the time, trucks even come stock with them.

The fuss is all over lights being put back into crown vics.. is saw a white Volkswagon Golf this summer with 4 strobes on the front bumper, ON on a public roadway, nothing was said to him, why? because it's unusual.

I haven't given the police any reason to hassle me or even come to my doorstep I've never used them on a public roadway either.

EDIT: I went ahead and asked a Halifax Police Officer a few minutes ago what the legalities are, I will wait his response & I will cpy & paste once I get it.

Yes, I know it is legal to listen on any frequency, I meant that transmitting was illegal, thus making it a waste of money to buy a fully functional transceiver when you could buy a scanner for a lower price (usually). After re-reading the original post, I saw that he already owns the maratrac (I missed that when I read it initially), so it doesn't really matter that a scanner would probably be the more frugal purchase.

I agree with you on the point that buying a retired cvpi and outfitting it with all the police equipment is usually just not a wise thing to do. I also think some people buy cvpi's (and install police equipment on it like spotlights and a pushbar) so they can use it as an excuse to drive irresponsibly. I have seen people who drive their cvpi like they are impervious to both traffic laws and common courtesy. I'm all for people buying cvpi's, it's just some people buy them for the wrong reasons.
