Just want to share some ideas to detect Piracy

I know that Sniper and LCPDFR team try to detect 1911.dll file but it's easy to bypass it.

Maybe better would be to check LaunchGTAIV.exe's file size and also do md5 checksum on it ? Also look for 1911.dll ?

Checksums.

Yeah, they aren't perfect but they're a good way to detect pirated versions and honestly if you're going to the trouble of matching checksums as a pirate, you're wasting your time for one mod

I think it's better way that checking 1911.dll file. It easy to edit with hex, to do that 1911 would be undetectable. Also I suggest putting in "Lcpd First Respone.dll"(But really don't know because I edited long time ago when Sniper Police Tools came out) because in installation instead of auto install you could use manual installation.

It means you using pirate LaunchGTAIV.exe ;) also

 

It is legal to use pirate files only IF YOU HAVE BOUGHT THE GAME

I'm just saying that is legal. Not many companies support cracks or other piracy things. So they add anti-piracy thing, like GTA IV did.

Only one time when i bought the GameStop GTA iv Download.. it ask for some dll i was missing! but that was basiccly it! and also Dont GTA iv have something that if it detect a Fake Copy you can get Drunk Camera making it hard to play ?

I don't get what you want to say ? You wanted to say: If you would download another dll it would be detected as pirated dll ? No It's almost impossible that your missing dll size would be same as 1911.dll (But you can change md5 to exactly same)

I don't really see the point. One could still bypass this by hooking the IO API calls and supply the original files for the checks. Adding more detection code is not really worth it in my opinion, like it is never worth it for a company to spend months on working on a protection. If someone wants to bypass it, he can. The current implementation is more like a simple CD-Key check: It prevents the most basic cracking attempts and is easy to implement. In addition, more protection code increases the chance for false-positives, nothing we want.
