GFWL Shutdown

Featured Replies

If this deleted update is accurate, however, there is one big concern: presumably, any game currently using GFWL will need to patch it out and replace it with Steamworks or its own system to continue working after the 2014 shut off date. That's Dark Souls, Street Fighter IV, BioShock 2, Grand Theft Auto IV, and more.

I don't think they would just stop all GFWL online game play. If it is true, im sure they will replace it. I called GFWL and they notified me that "As far as they know" GFWL will only shutdown for AOE, and other games will not be affected.

Well, if you checked in that other thread it's for all games connected to GFWL. That includes GTA IV multiplayer. Unless it's moved to say.. Steamworks.

Invenio, Investigatio, Imperium

Because GFWL is terrible, and I am glad it's going away. Hopefully it'll be ported to another service. (Socialclub, Steamworks etc). Bioshock got moved to steamworks so there is still hope.

If GTA4 Goes to steam, And runs off there servers, That means no MODS, Steam will be banning people for them. So lets just hope they dont go to steam servers.

A friend of mine talked to staff that works in a Microsoft GFWL call centre and they said it was only the store that is shut down and no support on new titles. The "facts" in the article above aren't entirely true. They're going to be replacing GWFL with something else to cross-promote XBONE.

Thank god!

AFAIK, Steam itself doesn't ban mods. I think it's at the discretion of the developer - Valve doesn't allow mods on their own titles, but I don't think they restrict it for others.

IVMP would be cool as long as it supports client-side scripts. Then again, for stability, server set mods would allow for better connection.

It would just be scripted in and you would to be able to create client side scripts but on the server side.

Actually... it'd likely be the exact opposite.

The only mods that Steam doesn't like are the ones that spoof their master server (ie. BOTs have fake pings, Maximum Player lying, things like that.) For the most part, that's understandable I guess.
