I'd say desktop. They're usually cheaper and better all around. Building a PC is the best way to go, either by using something like cyberpowerpc.com where you pick the parts and they build it for you or by using pcpartpicker.com where you can find all the parts you want for the best price then build it yourself.

This.

Laptops are prone to overheating and GTA IV, for example, is a very demanding game.

But if you really want to buy a laptop, make sure that you don't buy alienware for example. Also, when buying a 'cheap' gaming computer, performance will take a hit. You get what you pay for.

Well it depends, I do agree with the players here that say that desktops are much better, as they are and always will be. However like me I did start with a gaming laptop because I was very mobile at the time (about a year and a half ago). This way I could keep up with the games and clans I was in while traveling around and what not. However if you are not someone who travels a lot or moves around then there is really no point to a gaming laptop since if you think about it when would you unplug it? Also if you do unplug it, what you're gonna take it to your living room and plug it in there? A desktop can do that just as well lol.

A desktop in general just has a lot more power behind it and you really get what you pay for it, if you play it right. Plus you can definitely upgrade it, with a laptop most you can't pick up a new mobile CPU and throw it in there or GPU. Even though I have a gaming laptop that I can do that, it isn't easy to find a new mobile gpu that has the matching port, plus its a hassle to take apart, and you'll hit a point really quick where you're just gonna have to up grade the entire motherboard to keep up with technology, which is like replacing the whole damn computer because the components that are removable probably won't be compatible with the new system.

Its just much easier with a desktop, especially when upgrading it. So it depends what your situation is and what you intend to do on it. Obviously you intend to game a little bit but if you just wanna keep up with minecraft and GTA IV lets say, a beast isn't really required.
