GTA won't load past 2nd Slide in slides how

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

So unfortunately I'm facing a problem that is prohibiting me from playing. I can launch GTA IV, but once the slide show begins it shuts down and brings me to my desktop. I recently downloaded OpenIV, but I uninstalled it along with the mods. I think I might reformat my computer, but if you guys have a suggestion let me know. I think I've exhausted all remedies :/

Thanks.

Well I reinstalled the game, now when I go into my common files, half of the stuff is missing? I cant run the compatibility thing for windows 8. The game loads, but where are the rest of my files.. Like GTA IV exe ETC?

Thanks.

*UPDATED*

Well, the game works fine now, it's just I cant run the game directly through steam. I have to go to my steam folder and run the GTAIV.exe. I keep getting the error message missing executable file when I try to run the game through steam (Play) button.

Oh well, at least I am able to play the game!

-Oh no! we have another domestic! 10-24 in pursuit! =)

I've merged your posts, please edit your post next time instead of double posting.

I'm going to leave the thread open, even though partially resolved, because it's not normal for Steam to throw errors when using the Play button.

Happy gaming, hope you get Steam working correctly soon. Maybe someone will come by who knows what the issue is.

Yeah I hope so. Other than that, the game runs great. Although I wouldn't mind fixing a little bit of the lag.

Thanks again!

Right click on the game in your Steam library then click "Properties." Go to the "Local Files" tab and click "Verify Integrity of Game Cache..." This might overwrite some mods, I don't actually have the game on Steam so I don't know, but it should fix the launching issue. If not, I don't know what happened there...

You may be able fix the lag by using a commandline.txt file. I haven't had to use one for a while, so I don't remember what's best to put in it, but searching the internets will help you with that.
