The 3D Studio Making Money off of GTA Modded Vehicles

Featured Replies

I have noticed that "The 3D Studio has been stealing 3D models from modelers and selling them for their own profit. I submitted a complaint to them and they replied that they give full credits. First of all, they lied. Second of all, they are still making a profit on something that isn't theirs!

Here is a link to a fire truck. I made the texture and they just made small edits and called it theirs:

That's not it! There are other models on there that aren't theirs!

Here is a video on my old YouTube when I tested some new sirens. I used that truck since I just finished texturing it. I contacted the modeler and he didn't reply yet. I don't know if he didn't see it or he was trying to remove it, forgetting to reply.

Anyway, here is the video link:

Actually A discovery over on gpm just started a couple of days ago for that site. Many parts have been stolen. Even rockstars original parts have been glued to those models. but like slimory said, it won't ever stop.

This is what a member of gpm said

Too bad you left. You know, you can fight it. It is possible to sue the company, you just need evidence/proof.

And now I quote a comment from Director of GPM about this.

And im surprised this is a shock to anyone this has been going on since way back before the IV modding days. This is extremely old news but here is the twist, some mesh's are purchased and then rebuilt to be ported to GTA. Some developers here even do that but when you buy the model for a few hundred dollars you also bought the right to use it how you want and to claim it. There is no copyright when you purchased the right to use it.

Im sure a few of these are stolen however if no copyright was put on these models its unlikely anything will get taken down. Remember in the GTA community we have our own little rules of conduct but that is not the rest of the world. Copyright needs to be placed on something you make to protect it. Thats the point of copyright. Im sure 99.9% of the mods created here have not officially been copyritten.

That isn't at ALL how copyright works. First, you do not need to register copyright to claim it in any country which is party to the Berne Convention (this includes the US, Canada, Mexico, Australia, effectively all of Europe, China....) Second, when you buy a model, depending on the site, you aren't necessarily actually buying the model - you may be buying a license to *use* the model under restrictive conditions (for example, Humster3D doesn't let you redistribute in any form unless it is impossible to recover the original model from it - basically, their models are designed for picture and videos).

True, but it still doesn't stop people clamming something is theirs and asking money for it.

Yeah IDK cp, Thats a quote. I didn't write one bit about that, cause I have no Idea how it works. Isn't it different in different countries?
