Unmarked SUV with no lights?

Featured Replies

So as I was taking pictures of my local police department's cars in their parking lot, I came across my favourite unmarked vehicle of them all. PMPD's unmakred Ford Expedition. I noticed however that I couldn't find ANY lights on it or sirens, like at all. Though I have seen it on patrol with an officer in it and when I was looking for the lights I saw the toughbook on the middle console like any other police vehicle would have. Is it possible that they could have an unmarked vehicle without lights? Is that even legal? lol. It definitely is a police vehicle and I doubt it is out of service because why would they leave it in the police parking spots. Anyone else notice this with their PD? Could it be a detective's car? The officer I saw driving it was in full uniform so I don't know.

I didn't bother to take pictures of the back or check it out for two reasons. I thought if there wasn't any lights on the front or side windows there wouldn't be any in the rear, and it was a pretty tight squeeze.

could it possibly be for prostitution busts? thats what i think.

I think they use vehicles with no lights for undercover drugdeals and prostitution. Just a guess.

I know the Delta Police have a jeep with no lights, i've seen it a handful of times.

There is also, you know.. the option its a civilian car.

lol I haven't seen any prostitutes in Port Moody yet but hey who knows, most of them hangout further into the urban areas.

Yeah it could be for drug deals, but I really don't think it is an officer's personal car (no civilian's are aloud to park in that section of the parking lot) because it has a toughbook and when I was waiting for the bus at like 11 at night I saw it drive by and the officer had the toughbook's lights shining on him so I saw his uniform.

I seen one of those in my neighborhood a few months ago.  Cops use those cars for surveillance and such.

Anyhow, this guy was sitting in front of my house for 12-hours straight, so I walk up to him to find out what the heck is going on.  As I walked up, I noticed the tough-book in the cradle, and knew it was a cop.  He said was waiting for a neighbor to return in regards to a SS Disability Scam and waiting to see if the person was mobile.

He sat out there for two days, 12-18 hours straight....never got out of the car.  Man, that's got to be tough.

Did you see a siren/light switch in the console or even on the interior roof of the car? I swear while I was on a ridealong I saw this thing flooring it down Ioco Rd with a little red/blue light on it. I think it has one of those flip-down lights.

Mystery solved! I went down there again today to get more pictures for reference and just curiosity and I guess since last time it was a rainy day I must have not seen the LEDs or I'm just blind, Today was a beautiful sunny day (for the most part) and I saw the LEDs. I would have checked the back but a police officer came up to me and he was cool and all, we talked about me wanting to become a Port Moody officer but he said I had to leave cause the parking lot is for police only so I didn't want to leave and come back. At least I found it's lights lol

Yeah no kidding. I am quite sad though cause when I was talking to the officer, he said they're getting more of the Dodge Chargers and no Fords... :( So this Expedition will sooner or later be phased out by some Dodge vehicle...

Hah! I knew I saw PoMo rolling around with that thing, and the lights are right where I thought. As it was passing us during a ridealong, I think it had a VPD sort of style rear lighting set up. Just a simple red and blue that's it. Might I say** when it passed us, it was going pretty fast. LOL Port Moody always like to drive their cars around like that. I think it was going to an MVI...

Yeah I love the PoMo Police. I just like their whole style of policing and I do have to say, when I was walking to a bus stop by the McDonalds on St Johns st. I saw one of the Chargers pull out of Williams st on to St Johns and he just floored it down St Johns and when he got near traffic he put on his lights and siren. They claim they have no response time over 4 minutes so I assume that has to do with the high speed responses

  • 3 months later...

In Saanich, BC I saw a unmarked Tahoe at a house. Either I see it pull up and park or its already parked. I have seen the guy at least twice and he was wearing jeans.
I don't see the LED lights that would be on the side panels, like above the wheels. The lights maybe hidden the same way as seen in your pics. It has a Rambar and for sure lights and siren speakers. It also has a spotlight, antennas and a metal cage in the rear seats.
When ever I see a white/grey/black Tahoe on the streets driving, I always check to see if its a police model or civilian.
One time I saw this Dodge ram pickup parked on the side of the road near some mailboxes. I thought at first it was a civilian car, then as I was passing I noticed a Toughbook on the dashboard. After I passed looked back and saw a cop with a radar gun. If I could not have seen the Toughbook and the cop in uniform, i would not have even guessed it was a police car.
