Zimmerman Trial Judge

Recommended Posts

I don't know how well you have been following the George Zimmerman trial, but the judge is clearly out of line. The litigation ended at 10 PM and she set the start for the following day at 8 AM, not giving the defense any time to prepare, let alone sleep, after demanding answer from Zimmerman about testimony.

Oh god please don't tell me you follow Fox News. They are corrupt, wrong, blame videos games for everything, and if there is a house fire they blame a Muslim.

Before anyone voices their opinion on this case, I sincerely hope they take the time to look at the whole picture instead of what is spoon fed to them by Fox, CNN (Those 2 have to have separate feeds in Canada due to laws against lying in journalism), MSNBC (who edited the 911 tapes) or any other similar "news" company.

Sticks and stones may break bones, but 5.56 fragments on impact.

I was talking about this to my friend. There is A LOT of evidence against Trayvon. Pros looked at injuries on both people and it shows the Zimmerman was being held down during all this, then again, he could've been held down because he attacked first. They also found marijuana in Trayvons body after his toxicology report. I really wish Zimmerman wasn't innocent, but everyday he's looking even more innocent.....

To the OP Senatov: I agree the judge shouldn't have walked out when defense was asking for more time, but I also understand that the job she has right now, under all this scrutiny and media press, tensions are high for everyone, but still it needs to be done correctly and thoroughly, Zimmerman's freedom is at stake. From the way it's going I think they need to slow down and make sure they get this thing right. Not allowing defense to even ask for more time and walking out on them, poor decision I believe to walk out like that.

Whether or not Zimmerman is guilty should have little to do with how a judge acts. The judge doesn't get to declare someone guilty; only the jury can. The entire *point* of a judge is to decide points of law and administer a trial impartially, in accordance with the law. Even if everyone knows the person is guilty, they still have the presumption of innocence, and the judge doesn't get to run the trial differently. If the judge doesn't do this, it actually provides a basis for getting the verdict overturned on appeal [well, sorta: they can then be retried, as no jury found them innocent; a verdict being overturned is an exception to double jeopardy rules]. Yes, even if someone's guilty, they still have all the same protections during a trial, and an appeals court can vacate the result if they don't get them.

(The judge *can* acquit the person before or after sending it to the jury [and can even vacate a guilty verdict from the jury], but that's only if the prosecution's case is so weak that, even if the defense didn't even show up, a rational person could not possibly find the person guilty. Say, if the prosecution's entire case was "He has red hair, so did the murderer, so he's guilty". Needless to say, this is rare, and certainly wouldn't happen here.)

I live in Sanford, so i know all about this case but i dont want to start anything i just want to say that there is no way zimmerman can/ could get a fair trial in seminole county or anywhere in Florida for that matter eveyone knows about the case and has formed their own opinions. Furthermore Trayvon was no angel he smoked pot and was suspended from school from fighting and there were pictures of a gun on his cellphone but was any of that admissible in the trial?   No

The judge said that the jury can consider manslaughter as a charge which is what i think the charge should have been in the first place. I know that zimmerman killed trayvon and thats not right and his family wants justice but no one can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that zimmerman wasnt acting in self defense and that he was fighting for his life.

Did he disobey 911 instructions to not pursue trayvon and did he  overstep his authority ? Yes, but does that make him a murderer?

I just hope that everyone can accept the verdict no matter what is it and move on with their lives.

Well I think Zimmerman should be locked up. 911 told him to wait for the police but instead he decided to shoot Treyvon. All he done was go to the store and get a pack of skittles.

wait wait wait, how can you say that? That he just shot him? There are 2 sides to the story, and only Zimmerman knows what happen, he could be telling the truth or could be trying to cover up his ass.

But either way I see it tomorrow there will be riots if they reach a verdict

Also I couldn't agree with you more. There is no way he is going to get a fair trial but, its the best way someone has though of. If i was him and was actually innocent I would take a lie detector test, I know it can't be used in court, but that test would get out and people would see the truth no matter what way it goes if he failed or passed it.

But to be honest this case shouldn't get as much attention as its getting. Everyday someone gets murdered by the other race, do we call racism on it?

I say that because there were some witnesses and they do have the 911 call he made.

First of all, there is no requirement to follow the instructions of 911 dispatchers. They have no legal authority, and they can't tell you to do anything more than I could.

Next, Sanford Police Department initially ruled that Zimmerman acted in self defense. It had nothing to do with race, but evidence that could be found. The only reason Zimmerman was arrested was because of of the media frenzy and the pathetic but scarily too effective effort to divide Americans. The city council was on a witch hunt for Zimmerman to appease certain groups of people, the media would only show pictures of a sweet innocent looking 12 year old instead of a 175lb 6"1 17 year old, the president put political pressure on it by referring to Trayvon as a son he never had, and the Department of Justice even got involved in rallies for Trayvon. Because of this pressure, the Police were forced to arrest Zimmerman, despite having insufficient evidence to prove him guilty of murder.

One of the many things people fail to understand is the difference between murder and manslaughter. Under Florida law, Murder, what Zimmerman has been charged with, is having the intent to kill a specific person. In order to be charged with it, it would have to be proven Zimmerman had intent when setting out that night to kill Trayvon. Manslaughter, which is killing someone without intent, is what they are trying to drop it down to.

The prosecution in this case would be almost laughable if people didn't believe it. The star witness against Zimmerman has nothing but hearsay, which is hearing from a different source other than yourself about what is going on. I was listening to the closing remarks this afternoon, and the main thing pointed out was that Zimmerman didn't know the street he was on. I don't know how many here have been under severe stress, but reliving that night, an event that has caused Zimmerman to be diagnosed with PTSD, and remembering basic details is incredibly hard for those people.

Probably the scariest thing about this is what it has been spun into. Despite this being an incident of a fight between a black man and a hispanic man, it is being used to fuel racial tensions in the US. Comments like threatening to kill Zimmerman after the trial is over if he isn't guilty, a $10,000 reward by the Black Panters to kill or capture Zimmerman, and most of all, the threat of violence against innocent people unrelated to the case. The worries of a riot are so prolific, the Sanford Police are going door to door to warn about the potential for riots after the verdict and Broward County Sheriff's Office is calling for voices being raised instead of hands.

If there is a guilty verdict in this case, it will have nothing to do with facts or evidence, but instead to prevent a full blown riot.

But why did zimmerman have to approach him when he didn't do anything.

I can't answer that because I'm not Zimmerman. However, if we are going to dwell on that fact, we can't ignore that Trayvon decided to double back towards Zimmerman despite being closer to his friends house.
