Norway bomb explosion

From the article I read, it says he gave himself up to armed officers.

It seems so. According to the police, he has also confessed commiting those actions BUT claims that he did not commit any crime what so ever. His going to defend his actions to the court tomorrow.

We are following this right now in my Homeland Security class.

  • I think 9/11 was a bit of a bigger calibre ;)

Before you idiots go spouting off about this group and that... do your ******** research! God D**** i hate that... WTF does being a Freemason have to do with anything? they aren't out to take over the world... or anything like that. IF Norway and half of Europe hadn't banned guns, then this could have been prevented... But these idiot politicians think that Criminals will follow the law... *facepalm*

Thoughts and Prayers to the affected families...

Totally love the negative rep guys... I see we have some nuts amongst us...

Still should've shot him.

I agree. He knew what he was doing and he damn well knew that he was facing 30 years max because of the laws in Norway.

Now they have to protect him and keep him safe, fearing that some vigilante will shoot him. Has to be terrible for the families to just watch and see

him smiling in court.

I hope it gets clear in Norway that regular police officers also need guns.

So true. There are three countries in europe where regular police officers don't have guns. Norway, Iceland and the UK.

In Norway, they're only allowed to carry guns with a special permission of the chief of police.

Makes you wonder. Had the police officer at the island been carrying a gun, would he not have had the chance to shoot him, saving a lot of lives?

Police officers are not equipped with guns in norway?

Wikipedia tells me they are equipped with Heckler & Koch P30 semi-automatic pistol.

But then again it's wikipedia.

Maybe like he said, the ones that get permission from the Chief get those guns.

Oh. That's kinda bad.

The finnish magazine Aamulehti stated that patrolmen don't have any kind of small arm with them and the armed police units are called in when needed (so I assume that these patrolmen are the once who are the most visible ones on the streets).

What is even more incredible is the discussion that this murderous killer may only be sentenced to 21 years...

Working the math out this equals, assuming 76 dead, about 100 days for each life taken.... Isn't that incredible that a country which considers itself so humane doesn't even put any worth on human life?

21 years / 76 killed = .2763 years per murder

.2763 years * 365 days per year = 100.855 days

Unsettling Wariness in Norway, Where Police Are Rarely Armed

OSLO — When a man dressed in a police uniform began slaughtering young people at a Norwegian summer camp last week, one of the first to be killed was a real police officer named Trond Berntsen, who for years had worked in security at the camp.

Whether Officer Berntsen tried to stop the gunman is still being debated. But facing a man carrying multiple guns and ample ammunition, there was little he could do. Like most other police officers here, he had no weapon.

By law, Norwegian police officers must have authorization from their chief to gain access to a firearm, but they have rarely needed to ask, until recently. Violent crime has been steadily increasing, jolting a society used to leaving doors unlocked and children to play without fear. Coupled with growing criticism over the police’s slow response time to the attacks and confusion about the death toll, which was lowered Monday to 76 from 93, there are growing questions about whether the police are equipped to deal with the challenges.

Wow... Many people say US law is way too strong... But damn... 100 days per person he killed? That's way too much, you kill a person here in the US and you might get sentence for life.

So true...Well, it was said in the news that they can raise the sentence to 30 years if he gets convicted for crimes against humanities but again like you said and calculated,

that's just way too short. Glad you posted this article. It really shows that maybe a lot of victims could have been saved...

He wouldn't have done that in good ol' texas. He would have directly been executed. 30 Years is nothing for a man that crazy.

Due to the graphic nature of this post, reader discretion is advised.

Yeah, it's sickening to think about how he could have been planning this for about a decade, too. I heard on the news he had been buying firearms slowly and legally, as well as small amounts of fertilizer. Eventually, he had enough to execute his plan. That's the sickening part; he premeditated this plan for years and no one knew.

No! I don't want him to die sad.gif

... It's better if he stays alive, In a prison, his whole life... with all those Rapists in the prison. I'm pretty sure he will get something from them...

Death would be the best solution, and the easy way for him. Let him suffer and rot in a prison.
