Rage Plugin Hook Error: "Could not hook game process" - Still persisting af

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I’m struggling to get RAGE Plugin Hook (v1.130) to work with my GTA V (Legacy version). I keep getting the following error:

"Could not hook game process. Insufficient permissions or bad anti-virus."

I have already tried the following steps multiple times, but nothing seems to work:

Antivirus & Security: I have added the entire GTA V installation folder to the Windows Defender Exclusions list.

Real-time Protection: I've completely disabled my antivirus/real-time protection, yet the error persists.

Protection History: I checked the Windows Protection History, and it doesn't show any blocked actions or quarantined files related to RPH.

Permissions: I have set RAGEPluginHook.exe to "Run as administrator" permanently in the compatibility settings.

Installation: I have reinstalled the game and the mod (LSPDFR/RPH) multiple times from scratch.

Launch Method: I tried launching the game first and then running RPH once I reached the main menu/story mode, but it still fails to hook.

System: I have restarted my computer several times and ensured no background processes (like Riot Vanguard or other overlays) are interfering.

Despite all this, the "Unknown game has crashed" or "Insufficient permissions" windows keep appearing.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Is there a specific Windows 11 setting or a recent Rockstar update (2026) that might be causing this "Legacy" version to block the hook?

Make sure the Grand Theft Auto V folder has all permissions enabled (Properties > Security).

If you feel that I’ve been helpful, a simple “thank you” is enough. 🙂
