GTA IV Running Slowly?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Per my signature I got a new PC.

However, GTA IV seems to have a bit of lag.

Example: I press A to turn left, and the car will start turning left about 1-2 seconds after I pressed A.

How would I go about fixing this?

I've turned down all the settings I could, to low, in my Graphics settings, and lowered view distance, along with vehicle density and one other one, all to 30.

Still does the slow thing.

However, when I've created a LIVE MP Game, it runs normally.

No slowness/lag whatsoever.

Thoughts?

Suggestions? (Re-install of GTA IV not an option)

Best,

KRI

I will give you this link (I'm not sure if it's permitted to post this kind of links here so if they aren't I'm sorry) but you don't really need to follow all the steps but most of them http://forum.iv-multiplayer.com/index.php?topic=53.0

PS: Forgot to mention that I use this and works excellent.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll keep this thread open, for some more suggestions.

I like to see what people offer/suggest before I just go and do the first thing a person suggested to do.

Would it have something to do with my Graphics Card possibly?

My PC is still under warranty, so I may be able to get a different graphics card.

Best,

A 1GB graphics card is recommended for GTA IV (vanilla) but is just under the minimum to play on full graphics and scripts (+ LCPDFR). When I play, it usually takes up 1200ish MB of video card memory.

But the fact that it works perfectly in MP is weird. Have you tried re-installing, then playing the game in vanilla without mods?

No, I haven't re-installed and played the game without any MODs, per the bit in my first post:

..... Suggestions? (Re-install of GTA IV not an option)

It was a big enough pain for me to install and get it working the first time, so I'm not re-installing anything at this time. :P

I don't mean any disrespect but that's the way it is with my PC.

If I uninstall it'll probably take me forever to get it installed and working again

And since my GTA IV folder appears to be Read Only, re-installing LCPDFR is also not an option.

Best,

KRI

At the time, I didn't because I figured it would work. (My biggest problem: I don't make backups. :P)

It does work, just this small "lag" problem. (If you wanna call it lag).

Some times it works just fine in SP.

Then slowly slows down after a while. :P

Okay try these settings:

Resolution > 800:900 - 1280:720

Aspect Resolution > 16:9

Texture Quality > Medium

Render Resolution > Very High

View Distance > 4

Detail Distance > 31

Car Density > 14

Shadow Detail > 16

(ALL OTHER FEATURES THAT HAVE THE LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH, OR VERY HIGH OPTIONS SHOULD BE AT LOW)

My graphics card sucks but after following the steps of the link I gave you I can play it at max resolution and high texture quality.

I tried that, and my Norton 360 was set off, by one of the files I downloaded from there.

So, I never got to try that method.

Is it safe to say, it's running slowly because of my Graphics Card?

Only thing I can think of.

Other than trying Xeceor's suggestion.

Xeceor, I never got to trying your suggestion.

I will do so tomorrow, when I get a chance.

Best,

KRI

Just an update.

I installed FRAPS, and the majority of the time, I'm averaging anywhere between 18 FPS to 23 FPS

Loading screens I get 53 FPS every time

Suggestions?

Edit: Would any of these graphics cards do to fix the lag?

I plan on making LCPDFR videos, and need a graphics card that will make GTA IV run smoothly, no lag, or "late response" to controls.

Anyone with info on the above links to graphics cards, please reply. This is urgent. :P

Shut off Norton.  Reduce your settings in game and in your vid card settings lower the mip-map detail settings, shut off v-sync, reduce or shut off anti-alias.  With 1meg card you should probably use medium settings.

Good luck.
