New PC setup not running GTA4/LCPDFR very well...

Featured Replies

I recently upgraded my computer by adding 8 more gigs of RAM, a new 2TB hard drive (program storage) and a new EVGA GTX670 FTW 4GB. I have everything up and running, got my graphics card tweaked for most of my games. However, now GTA4 runs like crap especially in LCPDFR. My previous card was a EVGA GTX560Ti and it ran smoothly, but even with the same exact graphics settings on the new card, its lags more, runs at a lower frame rate, screen tearing like crazy especially with ELS... I'm at a loss. I'm trying different commandlines but nothing's working.

Any suggestions?

Could you give full specs please? Then we may be able to help.

Try updating your vid card driver OR if updated already, roll back your driver back to a previous release.  You should be running smooth as silk, has to be a driver issue far as I can tell.

Google your current driver and see if others are having the same issue.

Well now I have a new problem. The game ran last night, sluggish and whatnot but it at least ran. I go to try the game again this morning, without making any changes on my computer whatsoever, and now the game crashes at the loading menu with a "d3d9.dll error". I went back and recopied all of the ENB files again, same problem, so now I can't even get into the game. WTF...

Get rid of the ENB. That ought to do the fix. Try running the game in vanilla first before trying to mod it to confirm it's working on your computer.

Removed the existing ENB, ran the game "vanilla" and it was fine. Installed a different ENB and I'm back to having the same problem.

I didn't have DX9 installed, so I decided to install it, rebooted and still having the same problem. So it's not DX related I don't think. I'm about to give up on this game.

ENB's are notorious for huge lag issues for many.  If you uninstalled the ENB and it ran fine, then it's obvious that you can't run that (or probably any) ENB's without adding lag to your game.  Use RTCv4 or something similar to cure lag.

Also, you should have Dx11, why run Dx9?

Good day,

Here's the thing... The game worked almost perfectly before. I had LCPDFR, an ENB, ELS and a bunch of scripts and mods, other than the occasional ELS crash I never had issue. Ever since I reinstalled Windows and this new card, I've had all sorts of problems with the game. Plus, it was running yesterday and all of the sudden it's having issues with this d3d9 file. All I want is for it to work, I can figure out the other graphics issues later.

If you reinstalled Windows, HD and Vid card, and that is when your issues started, must be a driver issue.  Also, maybe try installing Dx11 as you're new vid card may run better with the updated Dx.

Good luck!

Figured out the problem. I disabled PrecisionX and ran the game (same setup as before... LCPDFR, ENB, ELS, mods/scripts). Loaded and despite being sluggish, it actually ran.

Re-enabled PrecisionX, gave me the d3d9.dll error. So, now I have to see if it's the actual PrecX program or another sub-process that's enabled in the program that's causing an issue.

EDIT: The process "RTSS.exe" (associated with PrecisionX) is causing the d3d9.dll error, I have the game running as I type this with PrecisionX also running, for FPS limitation and fan control for the GTX670. Hopefully now it continues to run, I'll further configure the graphics until it's running smoothly.

Another break-through... got the game running smoothly now. After researching FXAA and how it smooths out the graphics with a minimal performance hit compared to MSAA, I enabled it in the NV Control Panel, and now I'm getting almost constant 50-60 fps (I have a system limit of 60fps due to screen tearing) throughout the game even with ELS enabled, and it looks much better than the in-game MSAA options.
