GTA IV Multiplayer Disconnect

Featured Replies

I've been trying to play GTA Iv online with mods at first and I just did a fresh install with no mods.  I am using Steam I just reinstalled GTA Iv went online with no mods played maybe 5 minutes and then i get the famous "You've been disconnected because your computer is running to slowly"  Ive been searching google and other sites for help with this issue and I haven't really got anywhere yet  I don't see the real difference if I would go buy a disk copy and run it from there.

What ive done and tried so far

Added gta to windows fire wall also disabled firewall and other programs (IE Trend Micro and Malwarebytes)

Checked my Modem settings

messed with different graphic card settings

My ISP is comcast the speeds i pay for is 40mbps download and 20 upload

Hi there and sorry that you are having problems. That error message means your computer is running slow, not the internet itself. Your FPS are low so that is why you are being disconnected. You need to run the game in a way it doesn't lag online. If you have your settings to max, try giving it a medium settings.

You have nice specs in your PC so, I dunno why this is happening, but give it a try. That message means low FPS.

Answer above^

Anyways, You can get something called gamebooster to boost your FPS. Defrag your directory and turn your settings down depending on your computer, Especially if your on a laptop....Trust me i am...I have to play on all low and i still lag. See gta is a fussy/pain in the ass game. It needs a VERY good computer to run medium or anything higher. So just try those suggestions and boost your FPS so it doesn't disconnect you from MP

Edit: Also a quickfix for low FPS is go to your main directory for GTA. Place a text file and name it commandline.txt inside it place the following (With the dashes)

-noprecache
-novsync
-novblank
-viewdistance 0
-renderquality 0
-detailquality
-frameLimit 0
-texturequality 0
-availablevidmem 1.1 (Has to do with memory, Only use if you have low memory/Memory issues with GTA)
-percentvidmem 100 (Has to do with memory, Only use if you have low memory/Memory issues with GTA)

It will turn some of your settings down but run the game a ton faster, Especailly for multiplayer. If you don't want them on low replace the values of 0 with 1 and that should put it on medium. In your graphics settings the "Shadow" settings. Turn them off or put them as low as possible, Thats just how good shadows look but it REALLY does lag your game a lot and is not nesseacary unless you have a very high detailed computer and you can handle all that, Which acording to GTA...you can't :P
