Hey guys!

 

I bought Arma 2 CO before my PC was taken into the shop(should be back in an hour) and realized it gave me Arma 2 Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead and Arma2 Operation Arrowhead Beta.

 

My questions is how to install them? Do I install just the OA one or all and in what order?

 

Also, when it comes to servers like DayZ and other servers, do I need to patch the game or mod or anything? 

If so, how?

LOL I have never done this with this game and googled but didnt understand most of it so I need a simplified explanation :0

Install both ArmA 2 and ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead since you have purchased the "Combined Ops" pack you should have both. In terms of mod servers like "DayZ" I would avoid them since your new, don't be like all the other people who buy this amazing game just for one zombie mod. Play some on some Domination servers to get started to learn the core basics of the game, It'll be hard at first but it's worth it in the end. In terms of mods I'd wait until you fully understand the game first, other wise you could possibly mess your game up and that is no fun to try and fix (Watch some tutorials on YouTube on "SixUpdater" so when you do decide to get mods you know how to use it).

 

I suggest my friends server: Chibis Domination. To find it simply type "Chibi" in your filter and it should display the game mode as Domination, although it is usually full.

 

Get some friends that know the game and learn all you need to know about it. Remember it's not a fast paced shoot em up like CoD, this game is a accurate representation of real life combat, thus it will feel like a Simulation rather than a crazy easy shoot em up FPS, so be ready to die......alot....

However, I read something that said youre supposed to set the OA download to install in the Arma 2 folder. 

But the default for steam is to install it in its own folder.

What do I do lol?

And are there any patches needed before I run the game/admin mode/compatability mode?

Steam is a awesome service, in short, everything you asked that may need to be done, is automatically done for you. It will already be updated to the latest patch and install to the correct folder it needs. In short just install, play, and your good to go (After it's installed, click "Play" on your steam client from your library of games). It's as easy as that :D.

No, Domination is a Server Side mission. The only time you'll require mods is if the server requires them. The server I specified in my earlier post is vanilla and requires no mods, other servers may. This is usually indicated by their name, example: JAM's random shitty server Insurgency! (ACE2, ACEX, ACRE) etc.

Once you join a server with their own mission file, it will automatically download it for you so you can play on the server.

Any server that has a green light by it means you have the right addons to join. So you can join them.

 

Yellow means you might have to many addons or not enough addons to be on that server, but they will let you join any ways. Just might see people in invisible cars and holding invisible guns.

 

Red light means you don't have the right addons to join the server. Lets say you try to join a ACE serve with just arma CO stand alone, it will kick you out of the server because you don't have the right addons.

 

if it is a big X: That means the server is more then likely out of date, will wont have to worry about your game being out of date as you have steam so it will keep it up to date....

You can get Ace/Acre from a lot of different places, for example I got my mods from the Tactical Realism clan that I joined a few years back

Using that you can install and patch DayZ and ArmA 2, very quickly and simply.
