Crashes When I use Arrest Or Flash Light

Featured Replies

Everything else works great, but when I press h to use the flash light or try to arrest someone (varys from when I press altr-h to when I step in the redpad to arrest them) my game crashes. This occurs also sometimes when I taser but not as much. Here is my diagnosis. When it crashes as you will find it gives an error in the log below. I read through the other threads (first couple pages) and I didn't see any similar problems. Thanks in advanced. I attached the file as it was too big to post. I have tried to use flashlight many times during a pursuit before, I also tried restarting and nothing has worked. When I say crash I mean it freezes and I have to kill the game.

Edit: I just tested it, when I walk into the red area to put the handcuffs on it crashes or when I press H, it crashed when I did alt-h because I must have clicked just h by accident.

Hi,

I can't find anything in your log, but you can test xlive.dll instead of dsound.dll.

Make a fully reinstall from your LCPD: FR then choose xlive.dll. Are you using other mods for your GTA IV?

I tried both and it still happens. I do not have any other mods.

What xDodox said and is your GTAIV cracked?

I recently changed to a crack.

Edit: Also only thing I have changed is I added two vehicles a Lcpd tahoe and a NYPD Buffalo

Edit 2: Went back to default still occurs. I am going to try x-live. With x-live I got the flashlight on but it crashed when I tried to turn it off. Same thing happens with arrest freeze.

Edited by Jarvis

Hi,

Reinstall this and this, then set your GTA IV folder so it is not read-only.

And use now xlive.dll and dsound.dll at the same time.

I am using both xlive and dsound. I reinstalled both of those, and restarted. The freeze continues to happen when I walk into the check point to arrest the person (put hand cuffs on). I am having trouble making it readonly, when I do so, it works but when I checkback later it is readonly again...

You should only be using xlive OR dsound at any one time - Not both!

I use both and it works!

It was only an idea to fix his problem ;)

BTT: Then try only xlive.dll.

  • Author

Went to only xlive.dll and I did some window updates that include some for c++. I can turn flash light on fine that is no problem. I still can't arrest someone, when I enter the redarea to place handcuffs on it freezes. When I look in task manger it shows high usage of memory, as in 1 Million K and sometimes 1.6 Million K. It normally runs at 900K K

Edit: Tried to do a dumpfill while it was running to see if that would help, still didn't and when I did the arrest it hit 1.6mil k then froze.

Edited by Jarvis

You have any other programs running in the backround?

Damn. Just about to ask this too..

Windows Live Messenger is a hungry program, try shutting it down completely.

Or

When in GTA IV do the following:

Alt+Tab to desktop > Ctrl+Alt+Del > Task Manager > Right click "GTAIV.exe" and then "go to process" > Right click GTAIV.exe when on processes > Priority > High / Realtime

Close any other program, you ideally want GTA IV to be the only thing visable under "Applications" in task manager, and judging by the amount of cpu / ram your using when you arrest someone, I highly suggest you try it.

OR

If this is a performance issue, which I suspect it is take a look at my commandline.txt settings and modify them for yourself

Running: Nvidia GeForce 9300M G

-novblank

-availablevidmem 4.00

-refreshrate 60

-nomemrestrict

-windowed

-novblank

-texturequality=2

-renderquality=3

-detailquality=5

-shadowdensity=0

-viewdistance=8

-width=800

-height=600

Modify these in notepad and then save it directly to your GTA IV directory as commandline.txt

Start up the game, if your still getting issues, close the game, drag the file out of the directory, edit it, save it then drag it back into your GTA IV folder

Even with a semi-medium card like mine, I have to have medium-low settings to run it smoothly.

Terrible Port.
